I guess the other option would be that he wouldn’t want his child living away from home at the age of 16-17 years old. I don’t know if that is a helicopter parent or someone who knows the realities of young men in youth sports and would like to make sure he raises him responsibly.

Genuinely curious, what about this would put any additional pressure on him? Having his folks come to most home games?

That's fair. However not all kids cannot be accommodated to that end.

I looked at it as he just wants to coach his kid. He probably knows better than most what was/is important to learn and work on to make the NHL.
Edit: Wait, nevermind. I thought Iggy was the coach. I guess I'm still not sure where he's actually coaching, although I'm pretty sure I could figure it out if I just googled it instead of sitting here typing about it.

He coached his kids' teams in minor league in Boston and in 2021-22 at least, at the U-15 prep team at a Kelowna private school (sort of like Edge School but mnore hockey focussed from what I see). I don't think he's in any way a serious candidate to coach NHL.
If I was to speculate, he's more interested in management.

Never fought Iggy but found a pretty good dust-up with Phaneuf from 2007.

Just explosive offensive and physically. And would throw down with anyone.
He had a great fight with Bill Guerin as a rookie too, it was the home opener and I'll probably always remember that fight.

Yep, he really looked like he was going to be an all-timer. Too bad how his career overall panned out.

Rink is just like Edge. It's in the CSSHL. It is not more focused or anything like that, they are both super focused. You can expect your kid to go from grades in the 70's to the 90's for some magical reason.
Except Edge has its own school, the Rink kids go to to a nearby public school in Lake Country who accommodates the hockey players weird hours.
Twelve of the 22 kids drafted in the Dub this past year were academy (CSSHL) kids.
Iggy was the head coach of the U15 Prep team last year where Joe played.
This next year he is coaching the U18 (formerly known as Midget AAA) level where Joe is expected to play, unless he makes the Kelowna team, but as a 2008 he better be lights out. Probably better he has a full year of Midget.
Rink is approximately $45k per year. St. Georges is ~$75k. Edge is approximately $38k. NAX is cheaper at ~$20k.
I know all this because I am an idiot.

^^ I meant more focused on hockey given the name of Rink. Edge has a lot of other sports they do. Hockey is likely the biggest though.

I get that but no, I have paid both of these orgs lots of money.
Edge does have other programs for sure (basketball/dance/othercrap) but they have two of their own arenas, unlike Rink. Definitely not less focused on hockey but I guess you could argue it is more focused if you define it that way.
But if a kid goes to Rink vs Edge its not because one is more or less focused.
Anyway, damn awesome seeing Iggy out there!

Another player told to "tone it down" "and respect their elders" and then run out of town a mere shell of how good he used to be.

Yup. Pay to play. With the bonus of these average kids also getting inflated grades to help them along to university.

But Dion got a 6 year deal...I thought that would have solved all the issues Tkachuk had in Calgary and he would have stayed!
It's a bit different though in that Tkachuk was sold coming off what to that point was the best season of his career.
Dion already wasn't looking like himself and really it was injury more than being told to "tone it down".
He just wasn't explosive anymore after the hip injuries.

If you want your kid to go to the show you better be willing to pay up. Even if you want him playing AA etc.

Yeah, I've been to many a Springbank game in both of those arenas. Unfortunately more often than not the north one.
I imagine Rink got a big boost just by having Iginla around.

You do definitely get a bump in the schooling vs most public schools. Someone needs to sell drilling bits.
