Anyone have a recommendation for cycling gloves for this type of weather? Not necessarily rain, but for 0C? Too warm for winter gloves, but too cold for fingerless gloves.
I got into work this morning and thought I had frostbite on the tips of my fingers. Holy man was that painful. Much rather dress up and ride in -20c than ride this morning without gloves.
Also, i'm completely soaked and my gear likely will not be dry for the ride home.
out of all of my cool weather gear, I really hate putting on booties first thing in the morning as it seems like I have to wrestle with mine a bit.
I also learned two things this morning:
- don't pre-mix yogurt and granola the night before as the granola gets soggy
- a banana that is a little black when you leave home, looks really black when you get to work in the morning
decent morning otherwise, but looks like I will have a headwind riding home

Oh, and thanks for the tips on where to order, My Chain Reaction showed up while I was away. Just picked it up, no duty. So thanks for the tip no not pre-paying. Now for a day of wrenching!

Got the overhaul done yesterday. New headset, forks, front disc brake and tire. Rode well this morning, though the disc brake is a little weak. First time doing a headset/fork replacement, and it went well.
Spoiler!
Sorry for the blurry pictures, I think there may have been some sunscreen left on the lens from vacation.
This is how the bottom bearing came out...Not so bad for 20 years, right? Might explain why I couldn't get the headset tightened at the end...
Homemade bearing cup removal tool. Park Tools are expensive!
Homemade crown race seating tool. It's actually just an abs plumbing waste tube. Worked fantastically!
Oh dear....that crack shouldn't be there....Welp, not much I can do about it!
Yet another homemade tool, the bearing press! Put a wrench on and crank her in!
Almost matching red...
The stoppers, I can finally stop grinding through front rims with V-brakes! Recognize that perdy rim, I-Hate-Hulse?
There she is, going to miss the old bomber Z2 but those seals just aren't built for -25.

Thanks to some crappy lube, the drivetrain on my commuter was a real mess. Used a dental pick to pick out blobs of grease in the cassette, and then pulled the chain apart and soaked in degreaser. Then carefully lubed the drivetrain with lube for dry conditions....I get a little giddy looking at a clean drive train.
Should be able to shave a minute off of my commute tomorrow

ugh, what a morning - legs were very heavy this morning and I had to beg them to pedal properly then I was about 5 minutes away from work, had a momentary distraction and clipped a parking block. Went over the handlebars and then recovered. got up to find my front wheel taco'd......had to carry the bike back to work.
Will have to take a cab home as I need to be home early and the wife is working late. Hopefully Cyclepath has a rim in stock that will work (700 x32C with a QR and a hub for a disk brake).
In the short term, I'll borrow the rim from my wife's bike.
dumb me

I saw these bike bells when they were on kickstarter or some such thing, but I'm so happy to see they've made it big and you can just grab one from the store. They sound really cool too:

^ I bought one of those bells from Jenson earlier this year for my commuter, I really like the clean design and it fits in a small sopace.
spoke with one of the boys at cyclepath today and it sounds like they have a few rim options for me to consider - so after work i'll take a cab home (as I need to be home to get my son someplace) and then head over to the path - I guess i'll likely have to decide if I want to upgrade rims and then buy a pair, or just go the cheap route and replace the front with the lowest cost option.

Was able to get the boys at Cyclepath to hook me up with a pair of Alex rims for $240. They were kind enough to swap everything over for me, so all I had to do was drop them in the frame when I got home.
Cab ride home cost $30.
It was an expensive lesson given I was not paying attention for about 12 seconds. But I was lucky as I suppose I could have lost teeth, broke an arm etc.
