Here's a little better quality video of the Cannon going off with Johnny's reaction and then again in slow motion. http://instagram.com/p/yQ4YB4Gzuq/?modal=true

The first breakaway comp is a joke now- it's cool to have fun with it, but it's not fun to watch when no one is trying or really showing talent- it's a waste of time now.

Agreed, it's been a waste of time since the shootout came into effect.

Let the team captains pick one of the regular skaters to play goal for the shootout and let the goalies be one of the shooters. That I would actually tune into

Was it just me or was Giordano his chaperone.

Gio like don't get too friendly with Voracek. Don't worry they use cannon's in Columbus. Don't worry it's a presser; no topic, talk about Chaperone!

His first goal was nifty, couldn't see it go in from the initial angle. Then he was kinda serious on the last one.

Anybody have the clip of Johnny Gaudreau's so called Flaming stick? I didn't get a chance to watch the skills competition and the highlights show only half.

They should cancel the whole weekend already. The whole thing is beyond farcical. The MLB is the only one that does a good job of it all, and that's only because there's an incentive to win the game which in itself is a joke.

Is the jump in TV audience and revenue really that significant? Most hockey fans I know don't even bother tuning in or making an event of it.

It's fun for the fans that live in the host city. And I think the players seem to have fun. It's nice for them to have a relaxing weekend in an 82 game season

I just don't get why things bother people so much. DON'T WATCH if you don't like it.

There were some great memories created by players and fans. So far...

-Toews selecting Kessel and calling him the most coachable player.
-Seguin-Kessel traded again.
-Ovie being absolutely hammered.
-Ryan Johansen SO move.
-Cannon going off scaring Gaudreau.
-Voracek using Gaudreau as the kid.
-Weber's monstrous shot.
-Hoffman's sick goal.
-Gaudreau cheeky SO goal.
-Gaudreau off-on-off-on the roster fiasco.
-Ovie playing baseball and Elliott just getting out of the way.

Plus I'm sure others enjoyed bunch of other things especially those in attendance.

As a hockey fan I find it painful to watch parts of this as well, our enjoyment as viewers at home is usually a huge priority except for this event it is really low on the totem pole. The All star weekend is about the host team's city and fans more then anything. The cool and exciting stuff happens off camera and in multiple venues around the city. This is about growing the game and having fun.

This break is the only time from September until the end of May and possibly June that players get any amount of free time. To go sit on a beach, party, play with family or what ever they want to do or not do in order for them to recharge for the final chase to the playoffs. The biggest thing this event does is it gives them a holiday.

You meant NHL or MLB had no incentive? The baseball game winning side get to have home court advantage in the World Series no?

On the broadcasting side of the ASG, the shootout coverage was horrible. At this age in technology, why couldn't they use glidecam or steadycam?? And boy, were they the same cam men that covered the whole show? It seems they were tired trying to hold that 15 poubds camera.

That was sick. "Come on Johnny, be serious" was funny.

You pretty much proved people's points if these are the best things about the weekend.

The joking around and having fun is good but the problem is that players take it so lightly that it comes off like no one really cares. Players are hardly trying. It kind of defeats the purpose. I think the NHL misses a huge opportunity to actually show off how talented these guys really are. If all that comes out of it is some mediocre humor just have them all get drunk and film them talking around a table. You'll get more laughs that way and the actual all star event won't be as embarrassing.

Still say it should go back to the way it was in the past. Instead of a middle of the season game it should be an exhibition game played prior to the start of the season pitting the Stanley Cup champions against a team of NHL all stars. A real all star team. Not one where every team has to be represented. Just the Stanley Cup champions against a team of the 23 best remaining players in the league. A true best against the best competition.
