I watch CBC on a semi regular basis, Rick Mercer, 22 Minutes, The Passionate Eye, Marketplace, The Fifth Estate, The National.

Just some random comments:

1) The US government does provide some funding for PBS. Not much, but PBS doesn't rely entirely on donations and pledge drives;

2) There isn't a "national" PBS in the same way that CBC is national. Sure, all of the PBS stations run essentially the same content, insofar and only insofar as such content pertains to the "big" shows like Nova, Frontline, the News Hour, Masterpiece Theater or whatever it is called now, and some documentaries. But one PBS station doesn't carry all of the same programs that another PBS station carries, so certain areas of the country don't get the same level of programming, due perhaps to:

3) Funding amongst all of the PBS stations is, in my view, exceptionally location dependent. If you live in an area that has a lot of money and values certain programs, like cooking shows or homebuilding shows, you'll likely get to see that sort of stuff. If you don't, well, that's too bad, and it will just be re-runs of cartoons for you.

In my view, PBS needs to be more like CBC, rather than the other way around.

Then you get D-grade programming like PBS, and there's a constant threat of not enough money to continue programming.

Some of their documentaries are alright, but I guess I meant when you go to donation funding you lose the bells and whistles for things like live programming, and you can't really get bid against others for prime shows with the lack of money. What's also annoying about PBS is their fundraising slots. Complete turnoff with that.

PBS doesn't actually produce much of their own product as well, it's cheaper to buy stuff from the bbc, granted I'd probably watch the CBC more if it ran bbc shows but it would be a loss for canada.

I think that anyone who sees Ghomeshi-gate as evidence that the CBC needs to be privatized obviously already believed that to be true. He might be sort-of famous, but he's only one guy, and he's not exactly the Walt Disney of public radio.

PBS??? Are you kidding? The network has tons of good shows. How could you not like a channel that carried Mr.Rogers Neighborhood for decades.

Its not that Ghomeshi is famous. It's the fact that seemingly everyone knew for years about Jian Ghomeshi's inappropriate behavior, but did nothing to stop it. I hold a public Broadcasting Corporation that is funded by my tax dollars to a higher standard. I would not be as upset, if CBC was a private network like CTV. I look at it, as a pervert going around beating up, and molesting woman with my tax money.

You look at it as a way to confirm your existing bias that the CBC needs to be privatized.

It's been over 2 decades since the CBC dropped it from it's programming, but I still miss Spitting Image.

I find it hard to disagree.

Moxy Fruvous sucked and by extension so did their fans.

Don't really get the point of digging into the 90s to find some obscure video of this guy saying fans of his band sucked. So much time has passed, it's not relevant, other than for character assassination.

Poor Jian, I feel so sorry for him. How will his character ever recover from this leaked video?
