Default Canada: The Story of Us

I watched the first episode and was saying the same thing:

http://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/some-peop...f-us-1.3364192

Quote:
Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil said the show was wrong to assert that the country's first permanent European settlement was established in 1608 near what is now Quebec City. McNeil said the history of Canada started three years earlier, when French explorer Samuel de Champlain founded a settlement at Port Royal, N.S., which is part of his riding.
I hope it gets better as it goes along.

I didn't notice the error but this program is outstanding. I loved the most recent one about the War of 1812, which will help me argue with arrogant Americans who think they won that war.

Wow, what possible argument is there that America won that war? They started it in an attempt to take over Canada and failed to gain any territory. Winning!

I have these on my PVR but I haven't had a chance to watch them yet. How do they compare to Canada: A People's History from the early 2000s?

I spent all last summer watching those on DVDs from the library, all 32 hours.

I had that argument when we were in a museum in Boston. Some geezer was adamant that they won the war. I pointed out that they tried to invade us but we repelled all of their attacks and, for good measure, we burned down the White House. Sounds like we kicked ass, with a lot of help from our Native Indians, of course.

It is debatable IMO. US was a fledgling country and repulsed three British invasions and ended impressment.

I caught a few minutes of the show and it seemed like blatant propaganda. I also heard there isn't much about Quebec on the show.

The Americans won the last battle of the war, which actually occurred two weeks after the peace treaty was signed. This is the reason I have heard why they claim victory.
