Not to say that I don't mind a good jab every now and then, but most of the so-called satire is basically just played on a loop, and isn't very funny.
But by all means, keep using Twitter to help you get through the "madness of it all..."

That might be true, except Trump opens his mouth every day, for new and exciting ridicule. Don't cut him short.

Can we have another peter break? Between his pompous attitude when discussing his views, calling people kind of dumb because they enjoy a good photo shop, and then calling people childish for their views on something; it's getting a bit rich.

I was clearly speaking generally in both cases, and not directing anything at a specific poster.
Also, why do you act like I am the only person behaving pompously?

The most bizarre thing about this whole health care thing in the US, everyone argues about how much should be spent, if there should be basic coverage or not, if person A should be paying for health care for person B, etc...
But the actual cost of health care and how to bring that down to something closer to the rest of the world almost NEVER gets discussed (unless it's how to get cheap drugs from Canada). I guess that's because so many politicians' pockets are filled with money from the people who profit from sky high health care costs, because that seems like such an easy campaigning point.
|
That's maybe part of it, but to me the reason is the same with gun control, health Care, drug policy, immigration, etc.: They navel gaze and reinvent wheels because no other country has their divine exceptionalism. There's a never talked about belief among citizens and policy makers that other countries aren't useful examples because none of them are as advanced.
Ask an average (certainly not all) American or politician about health Care or drug polocy and they talk about the issue as though no other country has faced it. Missing from these policy debates are real world examples of other options. Single payer is called a distaster when virtually every other developed nation has it and is far more successful at it.

To be honest folks, these kinds of threads are hard enough to moderate without people making comments about the moderation all the time. If you have questions about a certain poster, send us a report and we will deal with it, but it's unhelpful to have posters just throwing out comments about who should or should not be suspended or banned. If you guys could all just find a way to disagree like adults and let us do the moderating I think everyone would be happier. Certainly I would.

^^^ So much for all those "moderate" muslims in other parts of the world. That was the last point of argument for those liberals that think it's just "a few bad apples" in the muslim world. While the number of active voices in the extremist muslim camp isn't a large amount, the silent acceptance of the majority in the muslim world tells us a lot about prevailing attitudes.

Sure seems like the Kushner-Bannon civil war will eventually come to a head, and you'd still favor Kushner to come out on top since firing Kushner probably means losing Ivanka and we know that's a non-starter. Also, "six West Wing aides" is a nice pseudonym for Steve Bannon.

What the actual ####?
So, you're just going to ignore all the Filippine Muslims who are right now currently fighting against the ISIS there? Like literally fighting, with bullets and bombs and stuff. It's not like they're just letting this happen.
What more could you possibly ask than people literally willing to put their lives on the line to stop ISIS from spreading?

Your point is valid, but we've been told for years now to look at areas like the Philippines as an example of predominantly muslim areas where it is peaceful and there's no extremist views. That is now proving to be false, and the only way ISIS even gets a foothold there is because there are lot of people sympathetic to their cause. The Philippines will end up becoming another Syria, Iraq, etc. etc. etc., where there will be a full out war of ideas with the extremists likely gaining more power, and then a pushback from a pseudo-dictator like Duterte who will create a military state like Assad did.
There is an idealogical war happening with ALL muslims across the globe at the moment. Unfortunately, the war is between bad ideas, and extremely bad and dangerous ideas. There's no winner at the end of all this, but the far left liberals keep talking about the hope of moderate countries like the Philippines in an effort to remain politically correct. It's foolish to believe it will work out the way we want it to.

Replace United States in your sentence with Rome, Great Britain, France, Spain, Alexander, Genghis Khan, etc.
To assume there will never be another shift in global power/leadership seems pretty ludicrous.

Extremism is a problem everywhere and with every religion. This is not isolated to Islam. The largest terror threat the the United States is still homegrown, and much of it from Christian Nationalists.
“Law enforcement agencies in the United States consider anti-government violent extremists, not radicalized Muslims, to be the most severe threat of political violence that they face,” the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security reported this past June, based on surveys of 382 law enforcement groups.

Extremism is growing problem for government, but also in government.

The media is doing a disservice by not covering this issue with the same veracity it does of the radical Islamic threat.

It ain't global consensus, but the other leaders of the G7 are moving forward (as predicted) in their support of the Paris Accord.

Pretty hard to believe that any nations could do anything with the United States. I mean, how many have endorsed the IPCC report, without the United States, and are taking appropriate steps to try and keep the planet habitable for humans. You can't do this type of stuff without the United States!
