Slava... show your wife this...

screwing around in the snow and knowing how to drive out of a slide saved my/my wife's life 13 years ago this coming july.
we were coming back to kelowna from a trip to calgary (celebrating our 10 year anniversary).
half way between golden and revelstoke on hwy1 we are approaching a left curve in the road. coming towards us in the other lane was a semi with an empty flatbed in tow. i guess somewhere on the flatbed was a tire rim that was unsecured. as the semi rounded the curve the rim slid off the back of his flatbed heading straight for me. i had time to yell, " *hit! " and then boom - the rim smoked my front driver side tire, then ripped into my skid plate, then back to hitting my gas tank, then driver side rear tire and then passenger side rear tire.
so there we are, now going sideways down hwy1 at about 90 km/hr into on coming traffic with flat tires.
i was able to get out of the skid and get to the side of the road with no injuries or any other collisions.
when the tow truck driver saw my tire tracks on the road he said he couldn't believe that i didn't flip. he asked me how i was able to drive out of the skid. i told him i LOVE screwing around in the snow and driving out of skids - it's just fun! and i guess having that experience saved our lives!

this is what hit me: (i went and got it off the highway so no one else would hit it)

and this was my truck:

one positive out of all this was my wife gave me the green light to do whatever i wanted to do to my truck after that! ha! ha! oh the cash i've dumped into that truck over the years! it should be getting insurance on it again in a couple weeks - can't wait!

It's not surprising news that various other parts of the world are enjoying better weather at the moment.

I keep telling my kids to try and break the tires loose on snow / gravel etc...when it is safe to do so, so that they recognize the sensation / feeling and then it wont be a surprise when it happens for real.

Plus its fun...

There's a break in the weather and the sun is out. If you did your shoveling earlier, it's all melted now. If you're Troutman, then the snow is super heavy now.

As someone with too much real estate to shovel as it is, it's too much. The moisture going forward can come in rain form.

My usual means of clearing the snow is out of commission at the moment.

I was hoping to sneak out of winter since there was no point putting in the effort to make fixes one month away.

So of course winter's wrath comes down right at the very end and I have to hand clear a million cubic feet of slurpee.

I was curious so I checked... I only had to clear about 3,300 cubic feet of slurpee... You win
