One last thought. Don't play Johnson on Friday. Ride Elliott until you clinch.

Is that the first game the Flames lost with the combination:
Ferland on top line + Stone + Elliot?
EDIT: I think that combo was 12-0-0 up until last night

Anyone else think that Doughty bitching out and submarining Tkachuk was just as dirty as Tkachuk's elbow? Tkachuk could have really been hurt on that play.

He's just trying to protect himself, and in this league there are far too many scenarios where players don't protect themselves enough. I don't have too much of an issue with Doughty dropping out of the way, but Doughty is still definitely a giant baby.

It was so great to see an "Iggy" game from him, even if it was the last time.
During his fight with Engelland I was so conflicted. I even screamed ''beat his ass Iggy!", only to realise I was cheering against my own player...
Of all the hockey fights I've seen, that one left me feeling the most conflicted/confused. Probably the only time in my life I've kind of/maybe/possibly cheered for someone on the other side to win...

I am not sure they were intimidated in the sense that they were afraid of the Kings but I do think there was a hint of worry in the back of their minds.
Some of the guys on the bench probably remembered that clinching game in 14/15 where the Kings came out with a clear intent to hurt the Flames skill guys and it was on the back of their mind.
Think it caused them to lose focus and instead of just playing their game they tried to run around and prove that they wouldn't be pushed around physically like they were that season.

Ok I've got to rant about the powerplay here...
Why the hell is Versteeg running point on the #1PP??? I like the guy but I'd only ever have him on a PP unit in the place of a guy like Johnny - handsy playmaker stationed down low or on the half boards. I can see the want for another playmaker type at the point but that's Brodie. Versteeg is just so redundant on that unit. There's zero scoring threat from the point in the current configuration. Dougie in place of Versteeg seems so obvious it actually angers me a bit. By far our most dynamic scoring defenceman and he rots on the bench. Hell even Stone has a clapper of a shot we could use from there.
And they just keep running that group out there like by some act of God it's just going to work itself out. There are obvious personnel flaws and it bugs the hell out of me that the guys who get paid to organize the thing just keep ramming their heads into a wall rather than make some changes.

I love Chuckie and I'm thrilled he's a Flame...but that Doughty business was a distraction to the whole team and ultimately resulted in a lack of focus on winning.

Exactly. Their game plan seemed based solely on reacting to how they thought the Kings would play. They spent most of their time goading.

Was at the game and here are some quick thoughts.
- got too caught-up in the Drew vs Chuckie drama - the kid answered the bell and kept playing the way he plays - Flames should have followed the lead
- powerplay was brutal - make some changes and get the puck on net
- Versteeg was awful - can't count the number of times he tried to be too cute with the puck only to give it away - this is happening far to often and the guy needs to be sat or make simple smart plays
- Chiasson's penalties hurt the team - he makes sloppy, lazy plays - time to try Lazar in his spot
- Ferland was non-existent - his physical play could have helped tip things in the Flames favour but he essentially took the night off - light a fire under this guy - he can be a force when he wants to be
- Can't win every game though, learn and move on and come out with determination on Friday vs the Sharks

The oilers won't be signing any free agents for a while, they'll be scouring the beer leagues for cheap fat barely able to skate chumps to take the place cheaply of the salaries that they're going to have to shed.

The Power Play is gonna be the bane for the team in the playoffs. Gonna be a quick exit no matter who they face if they don't finally get that in order.
The fact they keep putting out the same lines and same formation with no results is pure incompetence. It's like they want it to fail.

Not clinching last night made sleep pretty hard for me. That's the sad reality.
