This isn't Mike Ribeiro people.

For me it's cause he's kind of whiney and crybabyish. Seems like something he would do.

Tkachuk will learn from this and get even better at punishing players without being dirty. He's smart and has the skill to make that happen. Doughty just might hesitate a bit next time they meet.

It's happened now, much more importantly, who will join Backlund and Frolik on that line. People have suggested that Lazar can jump in, I'm a bit worried given his overall lack of experience with the team and the whole giving him a lot of pressure right away thing.
That said, there obviously aren't any other players besides Tkachuk who have the experience with them. I'd be happiest to see Jankowski have a go there I think, he seems like he's developing the 2-way play that will allow that line to keep going against top lines.

Looking at the other 2 game suspensions given by the NHL it does add up IMO. Oh well, having a us vs the world mentality isn't to hurt going into the playoffs.

While he hasn't earned it, I'd actually try Brouwer in that spot and see if Frolik and Backlund can't get him going a little.

The standard suspension for the NHL this season has been 2 games. This isn't out of the ordinary for this season. It's only 2 games. He'll be back in a few days....some posters just need to take a deep breath.

I say give Sam Bennett a go on that line as a winger. Maybe it will spark him.

Agreed. This seems to be fairly common lately. "Ooh, what will guys on the other board say? Let's see!". We even get quotes sometimes.
Even in this thread I read "this is what other fanbases will make fun of us for".
We should stop doing that. Because as you say, who cares?

Imagine if Tkachuk wasn't suspended, keeping in mind the Flames still play LA twice more this season. Tkachuk would have an even bigger target on this back. LA might be out to get revenge for the "unpunished" hit. By that stage, LA is probably out of the playoffs anyway, so they might not care about any consequences/suspensions.
Is it better to have them focusing on Tkachuk instead of Gaudreau?

Well everyone likes a good ATL report after a nice win! However I agree far too much concern over the other fan bases. We even needed to fire our new coach and dismantle our young core at the start of this season all based around what other fan bases might be able to make fun of us for.

Ridiculous, the wheel of justice strikes again. Should have been a 2 minute minor.

I completely disagree with the ruling.
- no history (fines or warnings)
- no injury
This really should have been a fine as a first time offender, and that Doughty played the remainder of the game.
Had this been at least his 2nd or 3rd offence, I could agree with it. AC's video of Hall's elbow on Kassian I thought was indeed much worse, and it received nothing? This is why it is difficult to take the NHL's supplementary discipline system seriously.

Ah, thanks - I didn't know that. Still think the discipline should start with a fine for something that isn't really dangerous, and that didn't result in an injury.
Had the league given it for a slewfoot right off the bat, I would probably agree with it, for instance.

My hope is that they get better and better about giving out appropriate punishments, and you have to start somewhere. You can't whine about "this player didn't get a punishment, and look how bad this play was!" because that's in the past and it isn't going to change. I hope that the DoPS is learning how to do their job better and is going to get it right more often than they get it wrong, because nothing is going to be perfect.
This was the right call, although it was 1 game more than I thought it would be. However, since he was already spoken to earlier in the season, they were forced to be a little more harsh this time. It's still appropriate, and not some weird Wideman punishment based on setting a precedent. Accept it and move on.

How's the view from up on that high horse?
You should publish a list of what players do and don't embellish so the rest of us are filled in.

Injury should have no effect on the length of the suspension. It should be based on the action, not the result.
I know that's not how it works, but that's how it should be.
