That's a bad return. Basically Dion for Hagman and cap space as the rest of the guys are free agents. Not sure why they needed to include Aulie for that. White is an RFA but I just don't see him as that great of a defenceman.
The report about Sutter being desperate was clearly true.

Burke was saying in Presser that the Jolly Rancher had to have Mayers- he was the deal breaker. UGH!

Geez if we don't win the cup by the end of the year... this trade would be very disappointing... that said, White is probably the most underrated D in the league.

IMO, Langkow is gone very soon. I dont see Stajan playing 3rd line fiddle when he can fill Langkow role for 1/3 the price and is much younger. Plus rumours Langkow was an issue to. IMO, get 2 bad apples out in 24 hours.

I don't care what you guys think, IMO Calgary wins in this trade, and I think phaneuf is not a bad player. White is a Giordano, and now suddenly we have 2 more forwards who are going to score us 20+ goals. Isn't that what we wanted? Phaneuf out of town and more offense?!

Phaneuf has become lazy, selfish and I'm excited to see the changes to the team with the trade.

2 roster players leave. 4 come back. 3 on the IR. Only 1 who can be sent down without going through waivers.
Flames have to do something else.

Yeah some flaky players who put up points on a crap team that didn't care about winning with a crap coach in a crap conference where they can rack up the points against crap defences are going to FLY out in the Western conference.
Sutter needs to be fired NOW.

Short term, this will probably improve this team, but longterm it's a pretty giant question mark. I don't even mind moving Phaneuf out, but I was really hoping there would be one high-end prospect in here for the future. There are two UFA's here involved here, which while it gives you flexibility in the summer, seems like a poor way of dealing away your talent.
Boy, talk about selling when things are bad. If this was the plan, I rather would've waited till the trade deadline where there is some built up pressure for other teams to go big.

I'm so tired of Sutter's addiction to pluggers. I'm really getting tired of the type of game the Flames play under the Sutters. Meh.

White has one less goal than Phaneuf and more points on a piece of crap team, than Phaneuf does on this team and for a fraction of the cost.

In the minority, but I'm sad to see Dion go.

Uh have you watched the Flames this year? White is very underrated and has more points than Dion. Stajan is outscoring all of our centers and has improved every year.
I do not like the inclusion of Aulie.

This trade gives us 2 functional forwards, which we badly need, and a very decent dman who won't cost us an arm and a leg to resign. Also, this opens up some space for us to sign Gio in the off season and still have room to add another big piece as the season moves on.
Also, Phaneuf may have been asking for a trade or may have just been the biggest of all ######s in the room.
I'll wait and see how this turns out and not judge it after 20 minutes. It could be good

This is not enough for Phaneuf, let alone a guy like Aulie as well.
I do not get this unless we intend to waive them all or send them all to the minors

Maybe the worst assessment of players I have ever seen.
White's not a top 6 on this team? Give your head a shake!

I don't get it. We could've signed 2 of 4 in the offseason for free. Probably could have gotten the rights to White if we really wanted them. And Hagman? Yeah, I like him... but uh... for Phaneuf, Aulie, Sjostrom?
I don't get it.

This deal helps this year for sure, problem is long term it sucks! I don't care if Dion asked for a trade, we didn't even know about it so Sutter should have gotten more. He needed to get a young core player or prospect back.
Guys like Mayers, Stajan, Hagman can all be had for a lot cheaper then a guy like Dion.
