Default Player positions

I've had some requests to know what positions your players can play. While the sim isn't fully updated to allow you to download into the editor you can use this spreadsheet to add any additional positions.

http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...Positions.xlsx

If you want to add a position it must be from a core and reputable source: TSN, NHL.com, Sportsnet, ESPN, Hockeydb, The Hockey New. Obscure links or articles won't be enough to justify adding a position. The league holds discretion to reject position adds that aren't reputable enough.

"Winger" won't be enough to add LW and RW. It must be specific.

You have until 11:59 on Aug 15 to submit any position requests to cphltrade. that email should include any player you want to add a position to, the position to add, and the link that proves it.

After that positions are locked down for the 2017/2018 season.

Questions?

If it says "true" in the cell, does that mean the player can play the position?

Also, just to be clear, this is something we need to do every year? Example: Last year Pavelski could play LW, C, RW, in the spreadsheet this year he doesn't play C so I have to find a link that proves he can?

Yes the true means he can play and yes you need to send a link in if it doesn't say true

Ok just want to be crystal clear on my 2nd question.

This is something that needs to be done every year?

Last year's positions mean nothing right? I expect a lot of GM's don't know this.

Correct that is why the link is provided. I have no way of merging last year with this so that's why we need any changes submitted

Just to further clarify - we need to see the position listed within a proper player profile/page. Obscure articles wont' be enough to justify adding the position.
As a reminder, we now allow teams to play guys in all player positions at once, meaning a guy can play LW on even strength and RW on the PP. This was flexibility previously not allowed. But in turn, the bar for adding a player position is higher.

Can we define "obscure articles"?
Are we talking non-reputable source articles or just all article that aren't an actual profile page?

For instance: Is this Sportsnet article enough to get LW added to Radulov?
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/a...yuk-left-wing/

Quote:
Radulov has had great success as a right winger through his hockey career, but Therrien is slotting him in on the left side of Montreal’s top line alongside Alex Galchenyuk with Brendan Gallagher on the right side for Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs.
Or this NHL article that shows him (#34) as left wing?
https://www.nhl.com/news/fantasy-hoc...18/c-282775028

Also, is Capfriendly considered a reputable source?

It is almost worth saying capfriendly should be the only source allowed to be honest. Those guys keep track of everything.

Basically we don't want to use articles - you should provide a proper profile page/stat page that shows the player and the position.
I would say sources could include
- TSN
- Sportsnet
- ESPN
- Hockeydb
- The Hockey News
- NHL.com
- Capfriendly
- Rotoworld.

I'm open to adding to that list if there other suggestions.

Prospect sites like Eliteprospects and hockeysfuture are not acceptable as guys play different positions before pro - we need proof that they have played a position in pro.
Not trying to be difficult, but if we aren't going to hold some standard we might as well just let forwards play all positions and be done with it.

I want this.

Less work for commish team to manage and it gives GM's have more flexibly to manage their lineup based on individual ratings.

Example, if a guy has a high FO, he should be able to play C. If a GM wants to try a guy at C with a low FO, that's on them.

I like that certain players can only play certain positions, it forces trading.

Like I said above, I think we should use capfriendly and only capfriendly.

Since we lock positions after this process, this isn't really more work for the commish team, and retains some level of realism against where players should be able to play.

Can we get clarification on how the sim works for player positions.

For example: Duchene is a C but can also play RW. Does the sim penalize me/his play if I play him on RW when he should be, ideally, at C? Or is that for sure a non factor?

There is nothing in the sim manual that says either way. So I don't know.

I think wingers should be able to play both sides versus just the one. Just makes sense to me at least.

My understanding, when I looked a little more into the sim because I suck in an effort to get better.... which got me really no info

If you have a player listed as a C and you play him RW there IS a penalty.

But things have changed and lately, there are players listed as multiple positions such as C/RW. in these cases (I assume) there's only a penalty if you play him on the LW only.

There should also be a setting that turns off the penality

There is no penality positional movement on PP PK

There is no difference between (or) a right defencemen or left defencemen, just defenceman<------ this was the info I was digging for that I found the others

I found the setting Doug is referring to

Forwards Play All Positions -
check this option if you want to have forwards be able to play any of the forward positions without losing ability (if this is not checked a RW plugged in at LW will not perform as well as if he were at RW). This option only applies on 5 vs 5 lines.

We have this turned off. But as long as you are playing people in their actual positions, (the boxes that are checked for them) then it sounds like there is no penalty.

For players that can do that - it should be able to find a link to support it. Otherwise they will only be allowed to play the one wing.

So if "Forwards Play All Positions" is turned on, a LW-only player won't be hurt by being put on a RW spot? I always thought "Forwards Play All Positions" was just to allow GMs the ability to place their forwards without being completely restricted to the positions that they are assigned.
