The St Louis trip in Game 6 OT right before the goal.

Wasn't it Fraser who had some questionable calls against the Flames in 1989? My memory is muddy but I'm sure it was Fraser who called a weak penalty on the Flames when the game was close. I can't remember which game either.

Weegar should have refused to go to the penalty box tonight for his "tripping" call.

Torts is an idiot and deserves the fine and suspension.
If he had refused to leave I imagine they would have called the period and tacked the time onto the 2nd period. Then during intermission the league would have explained how many games he was going to get and talked to the team GM about how big the team fine was going to be if he came back out to the bench.

With the benefit of hindsight, he should have refused to come out of the penalty box.

Likely a 1 game suspension but he is going to get clobbered in the cheque book.
Pretty likely he has already heard from Mr. Bettman.
Cannot embarrass the officials and the league like that...but damn if it wasnt hilarious to watch.

This might be the best article i have read in a long long time...hilarious.

When the Lightning scored again, 47 seconds later, to make it 4-0, the barometer finally hit 950 millibars. With 9:11 to play in the first period, Hurricane Torts finally made landfall.
Tortorella ... disagreed. And he disagreed as only Tortorella disagrees: with full heart, with full lungs, with fully expressive vocabulary.
Rebelliously, delightfully, typically, as the officials motioned for him to exit the rink, he wouldn’t leave the bench. For two full minutes, the sports world was treated to an epic Tortorella tantrum.

Game 6 in OT of course. The Lightning was completely gassed from the end of the 2nd period on. that Cup was ours and then effing pathetic Kerry Fraser wanted a game 7.
What the holy eff? Fraser got pulled from game 6 because of poor reffing earlier in the series.???!! lol It was pathetic Stephen Walkom who blew the call in OT.
Quote:
- Referee Kerry Fraser was pulled Friday
from his Game 6 assignment after feeling the wrath of angry Calgary Flames fans earlier in the Stanley Cup finals.
Instead, Bill McCreary and Stephen Walkom -- the same officials
from Calgary's Game 5 victory at Tampa Bay -- will be the referees
Saturday night when the Flames can capture their second Stanley
Cup.
Fraser had objects thrown at him and heard boos and derisive
chants during Game 4 when Tampa Bay evened the best-of-seven
series. The Lightning scored the only goal of the game during a
two-man advantage early in the first period.

Flames should have taken any opportunity available to them to forfeit after the 1st period.

Seems light, if the ref tells you to get out GTFO
Nobody wants to ref anymore and I don't blame them...you think it's bad now just wait, reffing shortages are happening all the way down to timbits

Go back to 1 ref, they blow almost every other call and review everything else anyways. it hasn't improved with 2 refs.

Torts is a forever toddler.
It's highly entertaining but also highly pathetic.

I've always believed that for these fines, the owners will reimburse the coaches, depending on the situation and their mood. Players? Less likely.

Worst part of nhl is definitely the reffing. In particular consistency. Really hard to keep overlooking.

Why is it that officials can never be held accountable for their bush league decisions?

The league definitely needs a change at the top, Bettman is well past his expiry date and has taken the game toward becoming the WWE with his game management system and no accounts ity for the officiating. Actually the whole old boys club needs to be turned over, I mean Colin Campbell is the executive VP of the league after the email scandal. There needs to be big changes to the management of this league starting with Bettman

The NBA does this, they make officials speak to media and explain how they blew a call if it was egregious.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they do this because the league likes to story write with their big teams and players and the results aren't always on the up and up. So they trot out officials to take the blame when the game managament is too obvious.
