Poor little victims.
It seems to me that most reasonable people from around the league (Tippett, McKenzie, Friedman, etc.) agreed with Tortorella's take on the situation regarding who to put out there. Though PJ Stock disagreed, so I guess that's something. One only has to go back to the Scott/Kessel incident to see why skill players getting roughed up by goons isn't out of the question.

The only thing Tortorella did wrong was go to the Flames' dressing room and that's why he'll be rightly punished.

I've been in brawls and in dressing rooms and as much as Torts will deny it and saying that he could only play that line. when he saw the Flames lineup card and remembered that he was playing a home game he got his 5 toughest guys together and told them to go out and if they want to fight then you fight them and don't take a step back from it. If he had played any other line he would have looked gutless in front of his hometown fans.

And the whole BS about protecting players. Ern isn't the type to jump a Sedin nor were any of the other players.

The guys that would jump a skilled player were on the other side in Blue.

Torts might not have wanted a fight but he wasn't going to disuade his players from doing it and probably gave them the greenlight.

Why do you think his defenseman lineed up in the face off circle.

Who cares who they put out on the ice? Its not like the Flames jumped all over them and forced them into fights. Westgarth was the only guy who dropped the gloves on a guy who didn't want to fight and when that became clear he didn't throw a punch.

Sestito and Weise were willing... they squared off in their fight. Bieksa ran after Smid. According to Butler, Garrison was the one with the invite in their tussle.

The posts over on that other board by Canuck fans are pathetic and hilarious. Seriously, I think somewhere there is a secret society that looks at people's integrity and intelligence and if both are on par with the dredges of humanity you are anointed a Canucks fan.

I never said they weren't willing. All I said was Torotorella was correct to send out guys who could handle themselves rather than rely on the Flames' good will to protect his players. Most people without an axe to grind seem to agree.

Yeah, honestly as a Flames fan, I think its fine.... what makes it hilarious is he gets all pissy over it. Especially after the Anahaim/LA antics.

Yeah, his reaction was definitely over the top. It didn't seem like the players cared all that much so I'm not sure why he did either.

It's funny everyone justifying Torts and trying to demonize Hartley...there was no issue with the line brawl nothing would've come of it if Torts didn't lose his mind and try to go after Hartley in the locker room.

The discipline hearing is 100% about Torts losing his mind, if it was even only 99% because of it then Hartley would've also been summoned.

This whole thing is overblown and stupid.....if Torts doesn't act like a lunatic this thing is done, dusted, filed away...as far as line brawls go, this one was middling at best.

It would have gotten 15 minutes of fame for being at the opening puck drop, if Torts acts like a grown up it receives one night/next day of attention and goes away.

And anyone who thinks Grats or any other Flame would just friggin' mug a Sedin...they are a friggin' idiot, this isn't Oliwa, Grimson, Scott or Simon we're talking about here.

Probably because Torts got into a line brawl with Bettman and his assistants. Got carried over into the lunch room too I hear.

Because if they don't look like they are deliberating, there will be an appeal because he wasn't given a proper chance to explain or defend himself.

Lyndon Byers in Off the Record said McGrattan should have beat the crap out of Tortorello. You don't turn down a free chance like that or words to that affect.

If you do this you have to have a great catch phrase when you do it, you just can't yell "Blammo"

I'm all for the nonsensical "Its just been revoked" after you punch somebody in the face.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger4 mins

NHL working on determining discipline for Torts and others...and by others, I expect the Flames will at the very least be fined.

You're right, if Bieksa is just making up crap on twitter to be funny then he probably made up the whole thing about Westgarth saying that he was sent out to 'make something happen. '
