Why? Not every team will ever have the right balance of players to be Stanley Cup contenders.
Washington could go 82-0-0 and still wouldnt make it past the first 2 rounds.
They have tried different goalies, defencemen, forwards and even coaches. Result is always the same.
Ovechkin and Backstrom lack the character and natural drive to lead any team to a championship.
The key is finding the face of your franchise that can be the glue to hold it all together.
They will not blow it up.
They will watch Alzner and Oshie leave in free agency.
They will acquire Kovalchuk from NJ.
They will keep playing with the little pieces until one day Ovie retires.
