Funny that they trot out the real estate "journalist" to shill for the Flames and against all those "trendy elitists" buying condos for 300 grand.
And those goddamn bike lanes!
And the "thousands of people working at the Saddledome."

Nenshi also hasn't said he doesn't see public good in an arena. He says the flames need to show the public good. That is a fundamental difference.
You can make an excellent case that the Flames provide x benefit to the community therefore it's worth the city paying x amount. However, That article is a big bag of populist crap and falsehoods.

Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I mean we've seen some desperate arguments before, but this might be my favorite.

I am so ashamed I click on that link. What a froth piece...from a new homes reporter of all places. Looks like Sun is all hands on board to tip the Nenshi ship this year. Hey Myke put that killer piece on the new Mohogany development on hold, we got a bigger fish to fry!
The funny part is the whole argument that it is a business decision is what the city is doing as well. The Vic Park option is supported by our mayor, because it makes more sense for all involved. He isn't anti new arena, he is anti blank check to a group that has so far shown incapable of producing the level of detail needed for the project.
Still beating that drum however, look forward to the next 6 months of how Nenshi spends way too much and taxes too much, but won't freely give the Flames a billion dollars.

I don't know what makes me sadder, that someone penned that seriously or knowing people are reading and believing it.

New Arena - Plan B - Victoria Park
The latest valuation I could find is from Forbes last year. While the Flames are only #16 their valuation is $410M of which only 41M is attributed to the brand. Go ahead and move Ken, another team will take your place within a year or two

Well maybe not that quickly but it is a desirable, profitable market so it would just be a matter of time

I'm sure other cities such as Seattle have thought the same.
Bettman could also block any movement and I think he's been known to hold a grudge.

Not without a firm deal for a new stadium they won't. Which leads us all back to square one

For sure. If the city drives them out, we wouldn't likely get another NHL team anytime soon.
Just like the time when I insisted my girlfriend buy me a Kawasaki Ninja for my birthday and she refused. So, I drove the bike I had into the Bow River and moved to Fort Macleod. I showed her!

I would love to be in the room for Edward's presentation to the rest of the board of governors about how uneconomical the market of Calgary is just to see the looks on the faces of the 10+ owners in the league struggling to turn a profit on a yearrar to year basis.
Maybe peter karmanos and Edwards could just swap markets? After all, the pnc arena was largely publicly financed and is less than 20 years old.
