Yeah the 10 finalists are after the fans vote on the nominees.

Well it wasn't for nothing I checked back to 2000, none of the d-men finalists were freshman if that helps anyone.

Every year, on the first two Mondays of February, the TD Garden hosts the Beanpot Tournament between the four Boston-area college teams.

The first two games of the tournament go today. Harvard (Fox) plays Northeastern at 3:00pm MT, and BU (Hickey) plays BC at 6:00pm MT (start time subject to change if the first game runs long).

Both games will be televised in Canada on TSN2.

A few strange goals scored in the Beanpot opening game. Harvard had a 4-1 lead about halfway through the third period. Northeastern got a couple of late ones to make it close, but the Crimson held off the late push and won 4-3.

Fox had no points in the game.

BU vs BC is scheduled to start at 6:00pm MT.

Harvard will play in the Beanpot final next Monday night at 5:30pm MT. This will be the 7th straight year the Flames have had a prospect in the Beanpot final.

Fox was alright. Made one great stretch pass (I think it was him at least, the commentators were too busy jerking it over the Patriots win to really say much today) for a breakaway and moved the puck well on PP. Harvard in general didn't spend much time in their d-zone until the last 3 minutes, but he was decent there from what I saw.

BU wins the second game, 3-1. They will play Harvard next Monday at 5:30pm MT. The game will be broadcast on TSN2.

This will be the second meeting of the year between the two teams. They previously played on November 22 and BU won the game 5-3.

Also, Hickey is now sporting an "A" on his jersey. He'll wear it during all Terrier road games for the rest of the season.

Fox was alright.

He has really good vision and passing ability.

His skating leaves much to be desired. Lacks NHL speed and looks a little awkward on his edges.

Needs to gain more strength as he lost puck battles far too easily.

He has a long ways to go before he is ready to go pro.

Hickey looked very good in his game.

Exceptional skater, uses his skating ability to close gaps and take away time and space.

Joined the rush quite a few times.

On a less stacked defense, Hickey would be seeing more minutes and be a key guy on the PP, his numbers would be much improved. As it is he is playing on D-Core the features 2 1st round picks, 2 2nd round picks, a 3rd round pick (Hickey) and a 5th round pick, some NHL teams don't have that many NHL draft picks playing for them.

Hickey belongs with Kylington and Andersson in the conversation of our best defense prospects, I am not sure I would put Fox in that same conversation just yet.

Before they meet in the Beanpot final on Monday, BU and Harvard both played regular games on Friday night.

BU lost 3-2 to UMass-Lowell. Hickey had no points.

Harvard beat Union 6-2 (the final 2 were empty netters). Fox had one assist and was a +4 in the game. Bruins' draft pick, Ryan Donato had 4 goals in the game (including the 2 ENs) and an insane 13 shots (Harvard only had 32 shots total).

Colgate didn't play on Friday, but will play games on both Saturday and Sunday.

Hickey article:
http://calgaryherald.com/sports/hock...ffensive-gains

Quote:
“They have a lot of highly skilled players but it’s still a pretty young team, so for that team to go where they want to go, Brandon is going to really be called upon to provide leadership and drive that group and be a top matchup guy and shutdown top guys,” said Flames player development coach Ray Edwards, who keeps close tabs on Calgary’s up-and-comers in the NCAA ranks and was especially impressed with Hickey’s performance for a shorthanded Terriers squad during the world junior tourney.

“I watched them play Union College, which is a heck of a team, and they beat them in overtime without six of their best players. Brandon played a big role in that. So I can see him elevating already, and that’s what he is going to have to do to be a leader on that team and to be a guy that coach (David) Quinn can count on as a top matchup guy and a top PK guy, which he is.”

Just a reminder that the Beanpot Final goes tonight at 5:30pm MT. Harvard vs BU on TSN2. Should be a good one between two of the best teams in the country.
