But Flames, so no doubt Tkachuk will be the first player ever suspended for this regularly-occurring play.

Yep this is my main fear as well. He is going to be a huge part of our team and i dont want him to turn into a matt cooke. I have no doubt the Flames will be having a talk with him.

Good old NHL "justice".

If this was McDavid or Crosby who put up their elbow in anticipation of the Doughty hit, would they be receiving the same treatment? Seems like the lynch mob is out for blood on Tkachuk and won't rest until "justice is served" in their opinion

Lol what are you talking about?

Is the Howe Messier defence a stupider new version of the chewbacca defence? How exactly does it pertain to the play last night? Or is this just you yelling at clouds again?

Agree - if they suspend Tkachuk, seems to me NHL Player Safety will have some "splainen to do" as to how they arrive at these conclusions.!

I don't really care what passed for acceptable when Messier and Howe were playing. Personally I feel that's a play that we don't need in hockey knowing all we do about head injuries and the effects post career. Selfishly I hope he's not suspended but I would like to see him get fined for sure.

Then look two posts above yours and explain why Hall, in even less of a hockey play, didn't get suspended?

There's some Olympic medal level mental gymnastics going on in this thread.

They can do all three, otherwise a hearing is meaningless. That said, has any player ever had a hearing and gone without any punishment?

I don't think wondering why Tkachuk's elbow is such a big deal, when Hall's wasn't an issue for the league is mental gymnastics?

It is good to have a player like this. The Flames have lacked a greasy player. But a dirty play is still dirty.

We can both love the player and hate a play.

I imagine that he'll be fined, or suspended one game.

Who was the last Flame to be suspended (excepting Wideman)? Rene Bourque?

What are you talking about? Why would I have to explain that? And what in gods name does it have to do with Mark Messier and Gordie Howe?

Will watching that video magically make me forget that Tkachuk hit Doughty in the head?

I want to say Marchand had a hearing and nothing came of it, but I could be wrong?

He will probably be suspended he has done some borderline bad plays and I think the NHL wants to send a message to him early. Probably only a game but I'm guessing the hearing is going to be alot of finger waving and hand slapping.

watching the whole play again. How does Pearson avoid any discussion for the elbow to the face of tkachuck immediately following the Doughty incident. Drives elbow/forearm directly into face of Tkachuck. Not a whisper in media.

Tkachuck will be a casualty of the media. It did look "dirty" but plays like that happen every single game. Brown on Gio.

Exactly. Dustin Brown did the same thing to Giordano mid way through the 3rd.

Thank god the NHL is looking into this. So cheap and awful by Tkachuk, glad to see the league is finally stepping in to stop his loose cannon play. I bet Flames fans think a hearing is over the top but for fans of hockey we can all see this is objectively a dangerous and out of control player. Just glad Doughty doesn't seem to have sustained any serious damage from that kid's reckless and obviously malicious play.

If that's subject to supplemental discipline, fine. It would just be nice if the league would show some goddamn consistency for once. Pearson tried to hurt Tkachuk immediately after this incident.

Why isn't he having a hearing?

The Hall hit shown earlier in the thread?

The 10-15 slashes that Johnny took in the Wild game that eventually led to him being injured with a broken finger?

Anyways, I'm glad the Flames have a feisty player who plays on the edge. With that however there will be the odd time he goes over the edge a little bit.
