I'm just listening to Aceyalone & the Lonely Ones, which came out in 2009. Kind of a cool concept/genre album - it's Aceyalone with a backing band that kind of sounds like it's channeling Motown/jazz and Andre 3000 circa the "Hey Ya" days. Kind of an unexpected sound from Aceyalone, but it works. Check it out, no weak tracks and a couple of really catchy ones.

Good suggestion, that is a great album and Acey is a great artist, most of his work impresses me.

I usually post older hip-hop, but here is some newer stuff I've come across recently.

This last one I'll post is from 1998. A UK hip-hop group that I've been getting into a lot lately. They got some really good stuff from the early 90's till about when this last video was done.

Was never a huge fan of Aceyalone. Not because of his lyrics or beats or creativity or anything like that, but I just can't get used to his flow.

I'm listening to WKNC 88.1 FM from the University of North Carolina. 9th Wonder is hosting an underground Hip Hop show right now and playing some phenomenal stuff right now (i.e., Nas, Hit Squad, Notorious BIG, Wu-Tang, old Jay-Z, etc.).

^ I feel like Hit-Squad is criminally underrated by my generation.. it's too bad really.

I'm not much for mainstream stuff anymore but Andre 3000 came out of hiding and threw down a mindblowing verse on the new T.I. single (who surprisingly snapped himself). I really do hope that Big Boi and 3000 sort out their issues and record an Outkast disc. Their early albums were unreal.

And in other news the K-os album release has been pushed back to January 2013 apparently because he is waiting on approval to use a few samples, primarily a Neil Young sample (not sure which one).

I thought k-os tweeted some time ago that the Neil Young sample cleared. Or that might have been from his facebook updates.

its a well known fact that NeiL Young is a man that is passionate about his music. I have been told by many that he hardly if ever clears samples. Yesterday around 7:30 pm, i found out that he cleared the sample i used for a track called Play This Game on the BLonde Side of the double album. This being one of 3 samples left to clear before BLack On BLonde drops on January 29th 2013. Thanks NeiL!

Been listening to J Dilla's Donuts a lot lately. All i can say is R.I.P. Hip Hop could use a producer like him right now.

Interesting, don't remember where I heard that in the first place. Either way, sucks to have to wait a few more months for the album but I'm sure the wait will be worth it.

Thanks for the info on that k-os album. I've still got Yes! on steady repeat. I don't go a week without listening to it haha.

By the way, I'm not one for overly aggressive, violent Hip Hop, but Vinnie Paz's God of Serengeti is mind blowingly good.

I have a question for you hip hop gurus. I have been enjoying songs like heartbeat by childish gambino because of their undertones of electronica. Is there a specific genre or artists who make similar songs? I know Dizzie Rascal and Tinie Tempah are on a bunch of songs but I am hoping there is a secret sub genre I am missing and can exploit!
