Flames abandon win-and-you're-in mantra for goalies

Glen Gulutzan has decided to abandon the ‘win and you’re in,’ mantra he initiated for his goalies late last month.
Although uncommitted to who he will start Tuesday in Nashville, he seemed to be leaning toward giving Brian Elliott the nod.

It would be the first time in almost four weeks he’ll start a goalie who lost the previous outing.

Elliott should get the start. That goal from center ice made me cry in the inside, but otherwise he was solid and IMO that loss was more on the Flames lack of finish then it was the goalie being supposed to put up a shutout.

And if we hope to have a chance at the playoffs, we need Elliott to get a good hot streak going. There's been a lot of talk of him being due for a good streak. So now it's put up or shut up time.

Looks like #Flames D Dennis Wideman will be a healthy scratch in Nashville.

Wideman scratched? Well, well that will have some people happy. I am very interested to see that third pairing play. Right now, it's a giant question mark which is better than what our 3rd pairing has been all year.

I know Wideman sitting is because he's been abysmal but can we play make-believe for a few hours and pretend it's because of a pending trade?

If this were true, I would be one happy camper.

Flames need a big two points here and I am really looking forward to seeing how Stone plays tonight. I expect the fresh start on a new team could help this kid get back to his play last year.

I'm a little nervous about two brand new guys to the flames system playing on a pairing together. Would rather see Brodie-Stone and Bart-Eng but regardless I'm excited to see em tonight.

Yup I would rather see Brodie Stone, but Wideman healthy scratch makes up for it!

Entirely possible that Stone moves up to play with Brodie over the course of the night. I'm sure they'll get a look.

Don't forget that Bartkowski played with Gulutzan before, so I'm sure he's somewhat familiar with the gameplan. This is perhaps why he looked so solid in his first game.

Also, our expectations for a third pairing have been set so low. Literally, if you don't cross check a ref into retirement and give away the puck every time it touches your stick then you have had a successful night.

Win and you're in only describes what happens after a win. It doesn't dictate what happens after a loss. Both goalies lost their last game. I think Elliott looks better right now, so I would play him tonight.

What black box is GG using to come up with line combos and parings? He doesn't exactly go with the obvious (Brodie/stone).
