I disagree. If there is one big improvement I seen in our players this year it's monahan a two way ability. Also Bennett is growing in that aspect as well. Where do you plan on playing a d minded centre ?

First line RW (not Iginla) and a high end goaltender that is a proven commodity. Shift some of the garbage out for young guys from Abbotsford to fill bottom roster spots.
Would also love to resign Stone, but might be hard given goalie and RW needs.

Sign bishop or get a starter thru the expansion ripple effects
Sign issue
Sign alzner or stone
Shoot Stajan, bouma Brouwer to the Sun.
Figure out some d depth
Gaudreau - monahan - oshie
Tkatchuk - backlund - frolik
Lazar/versteeg - bennet - ferland
Lazar - jankowski - klimchuk
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - alzner/stone
? -?
Bishop
Johnson

Challenging offseason.
Only 3 NHL defensemen signed. Signing Stone or a comparable is a must. The back end improved considerably when he got here.
Signing a goalie is even more important.
And that is to more or less tread water. Really need a top line winger with virtually no trade assets with which to acquire.

He's improved but still has a long way to go.
Either way, Bennett and Stajan isn't going to cut it as your third and fourth line Center.

Do what they have to do to get rid of brouwer.
Revamp the 4th line completely with more checking hitting and fighting ability
New bottom pairing D
Re-sign Stone or somehow land an upgrade top 4 dman
New goalie to carry the mail with Gillies

In that case, a time machine, a super fancy cloning machine and a new player named Pavel Neely-Lemieux... on a 3x3.

I'm surprised that no one has wished for Gaudreau to regain his game. Absolute no show in the playoffs and a very disappointing regular season.
If he's going to be our best player and we're going to be cup contenders.....he needs to be A LOT better.

Oshie is a great player but jesus a gaudreau monahan oshie line would get beat down. That is a soft line.

He had 61 points in 72 games while playing with garbage like Alex Chiasson for half the season while fighting through a broken finger he had surgery on. Say what you want about the playoffs, but calling his regular season disappointing is ridiculous.

Not really any more ridiculous than your proposal to trade Gaudreau, just saying.

Better replay technology
No more 3 point games, or if they stay, 3 pts for regulation wins
A new goaltender
The Flames to stay largely similar. They outplayed the Ducks, just need to focus on finish.

But then again, a big "physical" guy in Brouwer didn't work out either while the two of them had the most success with a guy like Hudler..
Personally, I really hope Bennett has gained confidence after these playoffs and will have a big year next year because then:
Tkachuk-Bennett-Ferlanf can become our tough physical line
Backlund-Frolik will be the shutdown pair

That was before the book on gaudreau became hit and hack him at every chance. That line needs someone with some snarl who can win board battles. I think ferland was a good fit on that line most of the time.

Thing about Gaudreau I think is he's not making the smart plays, he's trying to make the flashy plays way more. When he utilized his skill into making the smart plays and reading the game properly, he was amazing. I think he's gotten a bit full of himself this year. Hopefully he humbles his play a bit. Enough blind button hook swoop passes. You're making mediocre d men look better than they are.

I realize that all of these wish lists won't be economically possible but here's my wish list.
1) Treliving
2) sign Alzner AND re-sign Stone (Brodie plays right side with Alzner)
3) MA Fleury, Halak or Bishop
4) dump Stajan and Brouwer
5) Graduate a couple youngsters (Jankowski, Klimchuk, Shinkaruk)
