That is nothing but sheer speculation on the writer's part. He has zero inside information and is basing it on it on him not being back with Ottawa. He could have his rights traded or could go back to Europe too. Going pro in North America doesn't seem like the most likely option.
I'm aware that it's nothing but speculation, but I agree with the writer that the ECHL seems like a likely possibility.

According to Conroy, Flames hope to keep Falkovsky in North America. Looks like they are working something out for him to stay, but aren't completely sure it will come to fruition:
“To see him play last night … very raw,” Conroy said. “There are lots of parts of his game that needs work, but he’s a huge man and he moves pretty well for his size. Sometimes he looks a little awkward, but he’s got pretty good skill and he’s got a package that you’re looking for.
“You look and he’s got some skill with the puck. He likes higher-risk plays. That’s okay. You want him to try to make plays. You can see what he’s thinking. Whether the execution was there or it wasn’t … yesterday it wasn’t always there, but he had the right idea. Just lacked the execution. He’s a little different. He has some skill.
“Now it’s our job to develop that package and get him to where he feels more comfortable. A lot of it is to keep it simple and know where to play positionally. With his size and reach it’s not going to be hard to do that.”
But finding a spot for Falkovsky could be.
It’s tough to find a home as a 20-year-old import in the Canadian Hockey League. If he remains in the CHL -- he won’t be back with the 67’s -- Falkovsky would eat one of three overage spots, and one of two import slots on his new team.
Conroy hopes a solution comes soon.
Because those conversations are plentiful.
“In our mind we have an idea,” Conroy said. “Hopefully in the next week we say, ‘This is where he’s going.’ We like having our hands on him and seeing him. You’d like to have him in North America where you can keep an eye on him. That’s the goal. I think in the next two weeks it’ll play itself out.”
If they aren't sure yet, it probably means they are hoping a CHL team will take him. Otherwise they could just easily sign him to a AHL/ECHL deal and put him on a team that they own.

“He has NHL ability,” Thunder captain Pete MacArthur told The Post Star. “At that age, he’s just learning how to play the game of hockey, as opposed to just using your skill. You play within a system and then you let your skill shine through and that was a good example of that.”
“He’s fully capable,” Thunder Head Coach Cail MacLean said. “His ceiling is very high. We’ve got high expectations for how he manages to develop throughout the season. He’s got a lot of potential.”

I wonder if they give him a look in Stockton soon? He has 19 pts as a defenseman this season. The Heat looks like a sinking ship right now, they could use all the help they can get. A Kenny Agostino type might help as well...

I would agree especially for Stockton's powerplay which is really suffering. Falkovsky appears to have a MacInnis like shot.
There was a recent post that at the ECHL All-Star Game he won hardest shot.
"Adirondack Thunder’s Stephan Falkovsky’s hardest shot of 99 mph was something that left me speechless"
"Seven on Falkovsky’s 10 goals on the season have come via the power play, and most of those goals have come from using his booming shot from the point and the circle"

The Flames have great amateur scouts. The 2014 draft is looking like another one where every pick will earn a contract (AOM is a maybe at this point).
