Ugggh, scheffler hits over the green on a par 5, In a ad spot. Ridiculous chip in for eagle, and he just kind shrugs and laughs.

Then announcers go to commercial saying he's too good and today's basically over now, 3 holes in lol.

Was going for a close finish after turning the masters off last week. Oh well.

Hmm, you're American, right? It doesn't seem to be televised anywhere in Canada. That's weird.

Thanks, it was confusing on TV. They just listed it as 2024 chevron championship, nothing about LPGA or golf, so glossed over it.

Yeah what Scheffler and Korda are doing right now is historic and should be the driving force for the game to be more popular than ever.....unfortunately though, the LIV animal is biting hard.

TV ratings for PGA Tour events are down about 20% this season. Even the Masters, the first major championship of the season, wasn't immune from golf fans' fatigue. TV ratings for the final round at Augusta National Golf Club earlier this month (9.58 million viewers) were the lowest since 2021 (9.45 million).
That from an ESPN article detailing McIlroys returning to the PGA policy board that he resigned from last year.

Scheffler is not the kind of golfer that draws ratings but I know I'll be watching to see what he can do. Is this a Johnny Miller run or is he going to be one of the all time greats? It definitely would be cool to watch someone challenge the grand slam.

The Korda sisters you would think could move the needle but the LPGA has been dead for a decade

No kidding. You used to be able to name most of the high profile LPGA players.

The ratings decline for the PGA is certainly a concern for them. Those viewers aren't going over to LIV though, I guess they're just not watching golf? And I don't know if there has been any decline in participation in golf, maybe even the opposite. It exploded during Covid and as I understand it, 2023 was also a record year for the industry.

This whole episode has undeniably turned people off to watching golf. Doesn't mean they don't still love the game, and if anything not watching opens up more time to play. It does feel like this splinter will be the golf equivalent to the open wheel racing split in the US, which of course has never recovered.

PGA fighting dollars with....quarters?

Quote:
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and other PGA Tour stars are about to receive massive bonuses for their loyalty.

The Telegraph reported Wednesday that Woods will receive up to $100 million in equity as part of the newly created for-profit PGA Tour Enterprises, with McIlroy getting about half that amount.

The payouts, which are set to be disclosed to the players by PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan on Wednesday, are a way to thank players for sticking with the PGA Tour instead of jumping to the rival LIV Golf League and huge paydays from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

That's really funny because the whole criticism of PGA trying to match LIV financially was that they took a bunch of "found" money and basically filtered it to the already rich top end golfers. Now this is just another version of that.
