Don't know if this is the writer's opinion, or actual Hartley wording.

Bob Hartley says Jonas Hiller will be the number one goalie for the Flames for the time being. No updates on Colborne or Stajan

As previously mentioned...
Ramo played great against Nashville, now see what Hiller can do.
Hiller played great against Montreal, now see what Ramo can do.

Sounds like some extrapolation but who knows.
One thing I don't like about trading the guy who's performing in Hiller is, Ortio and Gilles both don't seem ready. There is a chance the rest of the team is "ready" so to speak sooner than expected. Then what? We look for a goalie?

100% in agreement. Was going to post essentially the same thing, almost word for word.

Can't lie. Hiller is winning me over. I'm a fan for sure. He's just been absolutely solid. Doesn't let in any weak ones, and can hold the fort whether he's only facing a few shots or he's getting peppered. Consistent either way. I really hope he keeps it up and has a whale of a season. Also hope he outplays Gibson to rub it in.

Hopefully they get Ramo signed to an extension soon. If Hiller keeps playing lights out, he might be a good trade chip down the road.
Nice to have two goalies playing above average though.

No rush signing Ramo. Ortio is on a one way next year and has to come up. Someone is going to be traded.

I just hope they don't go full #1 route if Hiller keeps playing well. Rest assured the league is noticing this tandem, much like in LA previously, so hopefully we can keep trade value up with some good prospects coming through the pipeline as well.
Maybe a 60/40 or 70/30 split. Just not the kipper split.

I wonder what Ramo's value would be at the deadline if we are unable to re sign him
Would we get a 3rd rounder like the Kings got for Scrivens?
Can he garner a 2nd rounder if he keeps up his play?

We got a 2nd for Berra, I think. Robbery.

I dont think we see Hiller dealt in a million years.
1 - he has potential to be our goalie as we emerge through the rebuild and will still be young.
2- what message does that send to free agents who we target? Come join us for half a season, play great and have no job certainty. Every targeted free agent would want a NTC which we have lived through and know they need to be avoided.

Obviously every player can be traded, depending on price. Would you trade Hiller for TJ Oshie, who's on the block apparently?

Goalies can still play very well into their mid 30s. I'd say Hiller has another 4-5 years of good hockey in him.
All depends on whether he can sustain a high level of play for a season but he could serve as our #1 potentially until Gillies is ready.
However, a lot is still to be determined over the coming months. Ramo very much still has a say in his place on the team.

Absolutely; if you can get a player of Oshie's calibre for a guy you signed for free off the street, and his replacement is almost as good anyway? You take that deal and run.

For whatever reason I thought Hiller was in his late 20's.
With Oshie practically 28, I would have to think long and hard about that trade.
We are in a fantastic position with our goalies right now and have a solid crop of players coming up. If it came down to it, I keep the course as is and entertain trading Hiller in 2 years IF Ramo continues to play great and Gillies /Ortio are ready to challenge for a #1 spot.

Normally I would agree with you but there are a few factors.
- Hiller is currently sharing starting duties with Ramo who has also been very good. I imagine Hiller wants to be a clear #1.
- I did say if we can re-sign Ramo. Ramo/Ortio would be comparable to Hiller/Ortio next year, one of them has to go soon.
- Not sure that we were ever in Hiller's long term plans, he's only got probably around 6 years to go in his career.
- I doubt he would mind going to a contender.
I don't think it would affect our free agent reputation at all.
Edit: Not saying we should trade him, just wonder if we could get a big return.

^ Fair enough. From what interviews I have seen, it actually seems like Hiller enjoys being in Calgary. He appreciates the opportunity and has more fun playing in a hockey market.
If mgmt went to him with the idea and he was open to it then I agree that you deal him. As it sits today, I personally feel it would put a mark against recruiting free agents if Hiller wanted to stay in Calgary and we shipped him right away. If I am not mistaken, he signed a 4 year deal. If he was interested in a contender I feel as though he would have wanted a 1 year to prove himself.

he signed a 2 year deal and he does not have a NTC/NMC, I would think if he didn't want to be moved at all he would have negotiated some kind of NTC into his deal
arguably the year after this one makes him more valuable in a trade as it wouldn't be a pure rental for the team acquiring him

2 year deal, he probably wanted to revitalize his career and expected to be traded in the 2nd year. Pure speculation on my part there.
