The Canuck rookies have had a rough 24 hours. Horvat got hurt against the Oilers last night, and Shinkaruk got sent to the AHL today (Utica).
Not sure how long Horvat is out.

I also always like following guys that come from nowhere like Tomas Hertl (as long as it doesn't include Canuck or Oiler draft picks). Or Toronto.[/QUOTE]
Ugh. Gross. Why do you like following guys who come from Toronto? Do you have any idea how annoying leaf fans will be if Matt "the next Bobby Orr" Finn or William "the new Ovechkin" Nylander somehow manage good seasons in that wasteland?

Might be relevant, working on a fantasy team with a budget. I have two forwards spots left and 2 million dollars left.
Want to pick two of Drouin, MacKinnon, Monahon, and Johnny.
Obviously I'm a little biased but who would you pick in terms of point production(G=2 A=1)?
Disregard if off topic. Kinda surprised at the lack of Fantasy talk though

I think Johnny will win this year depending on how his linemates adjust to him.

MacKinnon for sure. Then either Drouin or JG - take your pick.

Drouins injury to start almost has me putting Johnny in front but probably not as smart move.
Already had to get brodie off my team even though at 2 million he could be a steal

Down goes Tervainen
This kid isn't the slam dunk blue chipper than some think he is. Would love to see Janko end up being the better player (realize lots has to happen for that to happen)

If Gaudreau plays 76+ games he wins this for breakfast.

From what I read, few in Chicago expected him to start the season with the Hawks to begin with. All I've heard throughout is that he's likely to spend half the season in the AHL at least.
My view has been that he's very likely to make the NHL as a scorer but his upside isn't necessarily star level. Overall his progress has been great though. He's late to develop physically and Chicago doesn't need him in the lineup.

As for the rookie race, based on age and experience Kuznetsov sounds like a strong candidate.

Johnny will be close to a PPG producer. Thing is I don't think he'll play 82. Might be like 60 points in 70-75 gp.
That should put him very close to the top. The only player that will rival his producton will probably be Drouin (Kuznetsov and Terravainen maybe in the conversation), because he's gonna have the linemates to put up big numbers. That may give him the edge in the scoring race. If Johnny could have a linemate anywhere near Stamkos, then I'm sure he'd have 70 points in the league this year.

Boy your expectations for Johnny seem to be a little out of touch with reality.

Is Jake Allen still considered a rookie? He's played 15 games for St. Louis and only one playoff game. If he is, I'd have him right up near the top as well. I imagine he'll split time with Elliot this year.

He is. I think Gibson is more likely as a goalie, but both could be in the conversation if things go right for them.

What's "reality" to you?
When has Johnny not averaged at or near a PPG? Never. I fail to see how out of touch that is. His nhl equivalent over a full season is 67 points. So...

McKinnon for sure. He should be up from 63 points in 82, maybe around PPG.
Monahan should improve and is a good bet but I see Gaudreau as someone whose game is what it is, and quality of opposition is offset by calibre of linemates. Arnold and Hayes benefitted from a guy who makes his linemates better. He is shifty and slows down the play, he is special. It's all or nothing. I guess 60 plus points, if he sticks. I starve my right it update this Tuesday. :-)

Sounds like Goldobin may stick with the Sharks? Anyone have his preseason stats?

almost every 1st round pick in junior has over a PPG in their draft season, some close to 2 ppg
they don't step up a level and continue that
I think some people's hype with Gaudreau is at insane levels to the effect that if he has a very good rookie season, i.e 40 points, people are going to be disappointed
