This. So much this.

Flames brass displeased with Tkachuk's off-ice comments:
http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/126...f-ice-comments

Quote:
Matthew Tkachuk may have answered the bell during his club's Wednesday night tilt with the Los Angeles Kings, but it seems the Doughty drama hasn't yet fully subsided.

The 19-year-old rookie drew the ire of the Kings after escalating a war of words with Los Angeles defender Drew Doughty earlier this week. Those extracurriculars spilled into the teams' game Wednesday - a 4-1 win for the Kings - leaving some of Tkachuk's teammates unhappy with the distraction.

"We got caught up a little bit too much in some of the nonsense out there,” Johnny Gaudreau said after the loss, according to the Calgary Sun's Eric Francis. "It took away from our game and it's ultimately why we lost."

After head coach Glen Gulutzan said Tkachuk has been spoken to about the incident, assistant general manager Craig Conroy provided some insight into the team's displeasure with Tkachuk's off-ice decisions.

"When I heard it, it caught me off guard because we always talk about bulletin board stuff," Conroy said, according to Francis. "You never want to give anybody anything. And (Kings coach) Darryl (Sutter) loves that stuff. He doesn't miss much. It probably gave them a little life last night."

After ruffling a few of his teammates' feathers and potentially firing up the opposition, Tkachuk might be more careful in regards to crossing that line in the future, Conroy suggested.

"He probably didn't know (the consequences) and wanted to see how it played out, but now he realizes it probably wasn't the best thing. He did it and now he sees the repercussions and I don't think it will ever happen again."

It's a particularly useful lesson with the postseason looming.

"The best thing about the whole thing is that it wasn't the playoffs," Conroy said. "Because in a seven-game series you never want to give anything like that."

Saying they are displeased is a bit of a leap.

It's over and done with, lock the thread.

Matthew Tkachuk's stats since the LA Kings game where he hit Doughty:

https://www.nhl.com/player/matthew-t...eason=20162017

9 Regular Season Games, 1 Playoff Game

Zero goals
2 Assists
9 PM (including 7 in the retribution game vs the Kings)

It strikes me that his "talking to" or whatever he received from his teammates and management might have taken too much out of his game.

In fairness though, that was a rough stretch of games for pretty much everybody.

The entire team went from 'on-a-roll' to 'off-a-cliff.'

Coincidentally as I see it Backlund is playing with less fire and fewer points.

Although he looked pretty determined to kill Kesler last night when Kes sat on that puck.......madder than hell about the no call on his breakaway

The entire 3M line has struggled recently but their chemistry is IMHO too good to separate them.
At this point I'm more concerned about Monahan and Gaudreau - to me they didn't look like a force to be reckoned with against the Ducks. I'd like to see what a line of Gaudreau-Bennett-Ferland can do as I don't remember them playing together since Penticton 2014.

Or, just maybe... he's a 19 year old kid going through a rough stretch in his rookie season which just so happens to be at the most taxing and difficult time of year.

Imagine that.

The whole line cooled off. Tkachuk is fine. When you see guys like Hamilton running around like chickens with their heads cut off, it's reassuring to see Tkachuk playing smart and in control. He's going to have an impact on this series, I have no doubts about that.

I liked what MT did along the boards last night, he won a lot of battles and kept his feet moving.

Its lucky he bailed on that hit, watching it that had the potential to be a very dirty hit and a massive concussion from a heat seeking elbow.

That bank pass to himself behind the net last night was awesome. They just casually showed it on a replay too.

He made great plays along the board, down low and continued to thread passes through with his vision.

Honestly not worried about him since his linemates (Backlund in particular) are struggling. Also having to watch the team spend almost 12mins+ on the PK means a lot of difficulty is trying to build off offensive pressure.

When his team and organization didn't have his back he hasn't been the same.

I think this is just conjecture. There is no evidence whatsoever that the team doesn't have his back. No need to stir up trouble where it doesn't exist.

Yeah, I dont get this sentiment.

If the team had his back or didnt, what could they do? Not to mention we're still in the midst of WidemanGate.

They are limited as to how much they can help him. Take the 2 games and move along.

Unfortunately your pretty bang on. Tough lesson all round. Would have been nice if it had happened earlier in the season instead of just before the playoffs. I think a couple good games from that line and they will be back to their old selves.

I see it a little differently but nothing wrong with that, and definitely agree stirring a pot mixed with some assumptions is never a good thing. Not my intention.

Theres been a few games that the League Office need to keep on file because they've been an unconscionable embarrassment to the game and the League, last night was one of them, the officiating was terrible.

But it was in no way the reason the Flames lost.

Sorry not sure what happened to my post, probably going to be awhile before the Wideman affect goes away. We just have to channel it better and be more determined. Another "Martin Gelinas" to pull off a few game winners wouldn't hurt.

If the Flames win this series I predict the winning goal will be scored by MT.
Feel he will become a clutch player for the Flames as his career goes on.

I thought he had a very good 1st playoff game as well.
