U of C residences? Olympic money.

And on and on it goes.

So comparing the City paying for a new arena for the Flames versus being a one-third partner in an Olympic bid just shows a gross misunderstanding of the actual context of the two items.
Just curious , how much Olympic money goes to the IOC ... I find it funny how people do not want our tax money (a lot less than Olympic tax money ) to go to our local billionaires but have no problem giving more of our tax money to European elites ....

Nenshi is a donkey for wanting all citizens of Alberta to pay for the plebiscite.

If he wants the provincial money, he will have to dance to their music.

So far the communication between the province and city seems to be very poor, and even the communication within the council seems poor. Makes you really wonder if they can manage this multi-billion dollar project.

Maybe Nenshi is afraid that the pleb will show that taxpayers don't want an Olympics here.

I think all the citizens of Calgary that don’t want want the Olympics are on Calgarypuck.com. As I’ve said the majority of people I’ve talked to want the olympics. My taxes can go to Olympics. At the very least I can see some infrastructure progress on my city.

Gee, and here I thought Ken King was the only poor communicator in town, and CSEC the only organization that couldn't manage a big project.

Did a new memo come down while I was away?

Interesting you say that. Maybe it is demographics because the majority of people I talk to to don't want it.

Yeah, Calgary's had a huge need for a skeleton course for decades now.

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but anyhow Calgary needing a skeleton course is right down there with needing a giant magnifying glass and a popsicle stick skyscraper.

The Bobsled/Luge/Skeleton track is well used and has been successful as far as tracks go.

Calgary's Olympic sliding track is getting a makeover after three decades and a quarter of a million bobsled, luge and skeleton runs.
This summer, it is undergoing $20MM worth up upgrades.

I think it would also be a tactical failure for us to completely let go of the Winter olympics reigns to the whistler centres. Our city has a long history with winter olympic athletes, it would be a shame to see that move to vancouver permanently.

I think you're missing the point. While facilities like this would definitely be built -- parallel infrastructure improvements would take place. Green Line, Roads, etc. Call this a downstream effect essentially.
