Almost nothing. The pick would have to either be a guaranteed success or the asking price low. Nothing else makes sense to me

I dunno...
Sven Baertschi
Jiri Hudler
Dennis Wideman
to Isles for....
Griffin Reinhart
2014 5th overall
Then, after Buffalo selects Sam Reinhart 2nd overall...
Griffin Reinhart
Max Reinhart
to Sabres for...
Tyler Myers
Chris Stewart
Let's see...we give up Baertschi, Hudler, Wideman, Max Reinhart and get Myers, Stewart and 5th overall....
I dunno, trade proposals are impossible......
4th overall: Hopefully Bennett
5th overall: Hopefully Dall Colle or Nick Ritchie

Thanks bud.
I'm pointing out the only vets I want off the team are any of Wideman or GlenX.

Leave it with that and just draft Ritchie and add Griffin to the back end......the Sabres trade is unnessacary

They're not going to give it up for spare parts. It's going to take something we won't want want to give up like Gio. Remember that if they trade this one, it means they don't have next years pick. The rights to an FA, a 2nd pairing defensemen and a 2nd line forward wouldn't do anything for them.
Think about what you value our pick at, and take a little bit off of it. That's what would need to be surrendered.

That's why I think sending our two leading scorers + starting goalie would work for them (might need to add a lesser prospect or something)
We could just back up the brinks truck to Jonas Hiller's house, or Ryan Miller's to help hit the floor. Give either of them 6+ million on a 3 year deal would work.

I know that's an overpayment, but man would it be awesome to have two more potential young star forwards on this team.

I doubt they take it

What am I missing here? You're not looking at MacKinnon at 5th overall, think more Nathan Horton, Bobby Ryan or Nazem Kadri. I don't think I'd give up more than salary anchors and later picks for their 2014 pick.

Sign some players like Greene, Niskanin, give Jagr a ton of cash, sign a goalie (Hiller, Elliot, Miller, Bryz) stastney, gaborik, Vanek Callahan dish out money and build a core of vets around the kids
The prospects are coming in nicely but they need to learn from someone....

What did it take to get Bobby Ryan last year? A first this year, a top 6 NHL ready forward and a former first round prospect. Far from salary anchors and later picks.

I don't think the Islanders pick is worth trading for this year. Maybe in a strong draft like last year, but we would have to give up some good assets to acquire a pick that wouldn't land us a franchise guy.

Bobby Ryan is a consistent 30 goal scorer - not a good comparison

If you're getting a good young core together, you might be able to win a stanley cup, especially with so many guys on cheap contracts.
That's why I am very open to any possible options to getting both #4 and #5.

This draft might not be good per say, but the difference between number 1 and number 5 is not very much. Each of those guys would be in the same ballpark of talent that Monahan and Gaudreau are.

I think they're more after quality than quantity. Not to say that those guys are to be scoffed at, but after #5 there is a clear drop off in prospects(according to McKenzie right now) and they'll be after more than a "Phaneuf return" that fills multiple holes with decent players.

I forgot the caveat in my post that those are kinda the high end comparisons when the guys on the other end of the spectrum just bust.

It'd probably be TJ Brodie they would want, I'd suspect.

*Until 2013-2014.
Also comes with question marks. As do these guys in general. Kadri, E. Kane, whoever.
