I'm not asking for much, I just hope we get the 4th overall pick, not 5th. Getting first overall would be icing on the cake.

Always the worst case scenario with you isn't it?

I would trade the Flames chance to get to #1 to remove the chance of any other Canadian team getting it (except Winnipeg, they're kind of irrelevant on the hate scale). A nice boring win by Buffalo would be fine.

Hoping we stick at 4 due to an elaborate and completely made up theory that there is no way we are winning to lottery 2 years in a row and I really want to have a top two pick next year. Assuming the teams play improves this year we would need a lottery win to have that luxury.
Fingers crossed for Florida or Buffalo this year

As long as Calgary picks no lower than 4th, I could care less who drafts first.

If it's Edmonton, I'll laugh. For real.

I don't want Edmonton to win so I also could care less who drafts first.

Just to add, he said that they would be happy to go to Calgary, he really likes Burke and the city. Also, he said that Burke has been at numerous Oshawa games so he assumes there is interest in his son from Calgary.

as long as the flames don't drop to 5th, and the oilers don't win the lottery, i'll be happy.

No way in hell the Flames win the lottery. Karma just doesn't exist between the hockey gods and this team and never will. I fully expect Edmonton to win the lottery.

Little information about the draft lottery history.

Quote:
The NHL Draft Lottery is a weighted system to determine the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the 2013 NHL Draft. Teams finishing with the fewest points during the regular season possess the greatest chance of winning the right to the first pick in the NHL Draft. Fourteen balls, numbered 1 to 14, are placed in a lottery machine. The machine expels four balls, forming a series of numbers. The four-digit series resulting from the expulsion of the balls is matched against a probability chart that divides the possible combinations among the 14 participating clubs.
Prior to 2013 draft the winning team could not move up more than 4 positions in the draft order. History of the draft lottery results:

Year - Worst Team - Lottery Winner - Winner Original Standing - Odds - Pick Result
1995 - OTT - LAK - 7th - 04.7% - Moved from 7th to 3rd
1996 - OTT - OTT - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
1997 - BOS - BOS - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
1998 - TBL - SJS - 3rd - 14.2% - Moved from 3rd to 1st (TBL had rights to swap)
1999 - TBL - CHI - 8th - 03.6% - Moved from 8th to 4th
2000 - ATL - NYI - 5th - 08.1% - Moved from 5th to 1st
2001 - NYI - ATL - 3rd - 14.2% - Moved from 3rd to 1st
2002 - ATL - FLA - 3rd - 14.2% - Moved from 3rd to 1st
2003 - CAR - FLA - 4th - 10.7% - Moved from 4th to 1st
2004 - PIT - WAS - 3rd - 14.2% - Moved from 3rd to 1st
2005 - N/A - PIT - N/A - N/A - N/A
2006 - STL - STL - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
2007 - PHI - CHI - 5th - 08.1% - Moved from 5th to 1st
2008 - TBL - TBL - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
2009 - NYI - NYI - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
2010 - EDM - EDM - 1st - 25.0% - Retained 1st Overall
2011 - EDM - NJD - 8th - 0.36% - Moved from 8th to 4th
2012 - CBJ - EDM - 2nd - 18.8% - Moved from 2nd to 1st
2013 - FLA - COL - 2nd - 18.8% - Moved from to 1st
2014 - BUF - TBD - TBD - TBD - TBD

So out of 18 drafts (not including the 2005 draft) the following occured:
1st place has won 6 times (33.3%)
2nd place has won 2 times (11.1%)
3rd place has won 4 times (22.2%)
4th place has won 1 time (5.6%)
5th place has won 2 times (11.1%)
6th place has never won
7th place has won 1 time (5.6%)
8th place has won 2 times (11.1%)
No team beyond 8th has won

If we win, I hope we take Ekbladowski.
1-3 wins, Sam Bennetowski
5-beyond wins, Nicholas Ritchowski

I'm not going to watch because that seems too Oiler-esque.

Does it blow anyone's mind that the Oilers actually have a lottery simulator on their website?

What self respecting team would do that?

I'm just going to assume worst case scenario happens and mentally prepare to pick 5th, or 4th with Edmonton winning.

That way, if anything else happens I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I could totally see Edmonton winning because of course they would.

Best and unrealistic case is us winning (he said, obviously). Real best case is Florida or Buffalo winning.
