My sentiments exactly!!

Thanks AC, like many here I had to miss the game. The way that JG moves and sees the game, I think that he's going to be fine with the size issue. If he builds his strength with the discipline of a Theo or St. Louis, he looks smart and quick enough to stay out of the dangerous situations. He seemed to have zero problem with the tempo, as well.

In the vast majority of his shifts, he was the best player on the ice.
Couldn't have asked for a more impressive 1st game.

In his 1 game sample... actually very good.
57.9% Corsi For (57.9% of all shots attempted were by the Flames while he was on the ice). He did that while also having just a 28.6% O/D Zone start ratio (Comprised of 16.7% O-zone starts, 41.7% N-zone starts, and 41.7 D-zone starts).
In laymans terms... his line controlled the play took and maintained possession when he was on the ice even though they usually started in disadventages circumstances. Even with no sheltering (decent qualcomp) they done good.
All figures from extraskater.com.

Was also out against Sedin(s), Kesler, etc a lot, I thought. So against quality competition without cherry picking good situations.
Was pretty sure Corsi would look like that... Flames mostly controlled possession when he was on ice.

So tenacious! Always after the puck when it's near him. I heard people say the puck always finds him.. it's because he's always after it on his side of the ice. Good clean exits from the defensive zone, great presence and vision about where plays are going to develop. Notice on the penalty he drew he was covering for a pinching defenceman at the time.
Give this kid some guys who have some skill and give them some time to work together and he's going to make some people feel ridiculous.
Wow.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Colborne line when he scored.
Been advocating this from the start, and although Monny didn't get a touch, I think he can score some by great passes from Johnny.

It was impressive that 90% of the time he was on the ice he did something positive.
Zipped a great pass to an open guy, created a turn over, won a puck battle.
Also the way he darted to the centre of the ice on the PP pretty much untouched and found Gio on the semi back door was awesome.
Also that attempted give and go with Monahan near the blue line was almost a thing of beauty.
Everybody knows he hasn't proven a damn thing yet. But it sure is fun to get caught up in the excitement.

Thanks AC! Did you carry the audio from some clips over to the video of the next clip if they were talking about something actually relevant? Very nice.
How many puck touches for JG in that game?!

Yup, I try and make sure the audio doesn't cut out abruptly when relevant. Sometimes with Kerr and particularly Simmer, you have to take some heavy liberties to clean up the comments as well as he tends to fumble around his point.

I am very impressed.
I haven't seen a smaller guy step into the lineup and do the things he did since.....
Joe Mullen....Hakan Loob ...Theo Fleury....and Ill even include PAul Byron (just impressed in what he brings no where as talented as the previously mentioned 3 )
He has elite vision and follows the puck so well you'd swear there was a magnet in the puck attracted to #53.
This kid is going to be something special.
Id be happy to see him make the team and post Monahan numbers and thats not meant as an insult at all ....#23 did very well making the team , deserving to be here and ill echo Burkes sentiment in saying this young mans parent did a great job in raising/teaching/mentoring him.
Our smaller guys have it.
Hudler, Cammy, Byron and now Johnny.
Yeah, bigger is better but as long as we have skill, quickness, smarts, truculence from these guys and nobody beats them for a roster spot....lets keep them.
I am one happy Flames fan right now as I see a bright future and am patient enough to wait for the results.
I miss the old Ville Neimenen saying "we gotta play lots of Flames hockey...Lots of Patients" .....I know he meant it both ways.

Johnny is a heck of a tenacious forechecker for being such a little guy.

This isn't anything new about Burrows, but did anyone else feel Burrows' play to hook Gaudreau's skate as he fell down chasing the puck out of the zone to be super dirty? (Around 1:30)
