Outside of a contract, any employer can fire an employee at any time without cause provided sufficient notice or compensation in lieu of notice is given (at least in BC)

well if sufficient notice or compensation was given, it wouldn't be wrongful dismissal.
I think what you are saying is that there may be contractual terms which would provide "just cause", rendering compensation unnecessary.

This.
I know the CBC (and corporations in general) don't make the best choices, but Jian is one of the network's biggest money makers, so I don't think they made this decision solely based on him being a bit freaky in the bedroom. My gut would say they have other information that may contradict what Jian said.
I like Jian and I think he's a great talent, but regardless I want to hear all of the sides of the story before I make any decisions.

I don't really care if you're harming someone within their boundaries or not. If you get off on causing pain or humiliation, you're a scumbag.

Seems to be a pretty common theme. Here's a tweet from a music critic that has occasionally appeared on Q:

I'd be extremely surprised if there's not far more to the story than what Ghomeshi's statement (which was undoubtedly vetted by his PR and legal teams) lets on.

Either they didn't give him, in his mind, sufficient compensation, or he disagrees that the grounds on which they terminated him were breaches of his contract. Or a mix of both.

or it's part of a PR strategy from a well experienced PR firm trying to colour the water and get a head of the story.
There is too much unknown at this point, including whether there is a criminal investigation or charges coming.

A very thorough statement by Ghomeshi, and driving hard on the issue of consent. It will be interesting to hear the rest of the story. If the only version of the events here was one of consent, I doubt this would have gone this far, but we'll see.
Some blogger/journalist wrote an article a year or so ago calling him a creep and describing their date. That's not to say the article was true, but it could become a piece of this puzzle should things progess.

So if both parties get pleasure from being the recipent of pain, how exactly is it supposed to work if no one causes said pain?
And saying there's a "wiring problem" because someone enjoys something outside of a pretty vanilla sex life is like saying they have a wiring problem because they prefer steak over bacon. It's preferences that are pretty hard wired. Some of the views in this thread are pretty unbelieveable.
As far as the actual story goes, I'll hold off on judgement until the rest of the story comes to light. Horrible if it is in fact purely slander.

I always thought Gomeshi was Italian.
Sounds like he had a jilted ex gf.
I believe him.

The rumors are out there. I don't see how mentioning that they exist constitutes "completely judged him and his character".
I'm a fan of the guy and I like(d) his show. From what I've read just this afternoon, calling him "handy" is pretty tame. Hopefully, it all turns out to be a bunch of garbage and he is vindicated, but it is not looking good right now.

Im no PR expert, but I would think Ghomeshi getting in front of this and releasing this very detailed statement, from his perspective, is a good move.

Agreed.
Reduces the shock when the more damaging version of events comes out, and ensures the conversation is already ongoing by the time the new info comes to light.
It all goes to hell though if it's not just one ex gf, and a parade of women come forward with more minor comments.
