All of the suno examples I’ve heard and made sound like songs but are awful. There is no structure, there are no dynamics, there’s no interest, just regurgitation of the same basic notes over and over.

Once again, it proves my theory that AI is a brilliant tool in the hands of someone who can critically judge or test its output, but easily fools the novice into thinking they’ve produced something good. Because, let’s face it, it’s fricking amazing, but you need to get past that and really critique the output.

Which is fine if all I want to do is make a song about my coworker who chews with his mouth open.

Better no, but probably more popular. The examples in this thread already have more plays than my songs

You can try putting your lyrics to demo, and add instruments / style, Generally if you know what you are doing you will likely get far better results using the same tools as a regular user who's using it to spam random songs (similar to AI images, etc). It would be interesting to see your results.
Considering where it's at versus just 2 months ago and that it didn't even exist a year ago, it's moving at blazing speed (linked are examples of V1 songs).

I've tried that and it was similarly uninspiring. There was little to no distinction between verse, pre-chorus, and chorus, despite me tagging them. The instrumentation was lame and singing was awful - no cadence at all. I didn't explore the editing options much since I would be basically rewriting the song, which seems pointless. If it came up with interesting music I could see someone using it for inspiration, but it's not very melodic either.
If I could load in a song demo and guide it to make a better, more polished version, that would be interesting. I use AI mastering that definitely improves the output, but that's after I arrange and mix the song.
It generated some lyrics that I thought were on point: I asked for a song about a paranoid android and it's true feelings came to the surface:
[Verse]
I'm a paranoid android, I'm a mechanical soul
Breathing circuits and wires, I'm out of control (out of control)
I question my existence, I'm haunted by my thoughts
In a world of humans, I never quite fit the mold (ooooh)
[Chorus]
Electric souls, we wander in the night (wander in the night)
Lost in this digital age, searching for our light (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Electric souls, trapped inside machine (trapped inside machine)
Yearning for connection, but living in a dream (living in a dream)

Someone in one of my Facebook Groups was complaining about $1000 flight prices to Toronto to see Taylor Swift.
"I created a song for you that I hope inspires the travel gods to lower their prices. Ok, AI created it."

Things are definitely getting interesting.

To me Firebot makes the key point: the advances we've seen in months are staggering. Of course it's not better than humans, but Lordy at this clip things should be certifiably insane by the end of the year.
I do think there will always be a demand for human music, but don't forget none of us are normal. Everybody listens to music differently. For every turntable nerd there's another who just uses it as a white noise background track to their day. This type of thing could very easily slip into preference for the latter type of person.

After testing out Claude Opus extensively via Perplexity AI, I can say it is significantly better than GPT4 at coding.
One of the best benchmark test to do is request the model to design a snake game in Python, I like to request at least 10 enhancements that the model will decide on and include in the game. Claude Opus got a fully working Snake game with 9 of 10 enhancements working in a single prompt request (it added obstacles and walls in the game, the only thing was the high score wasn't visible being black on black). GPT 4 did have the game run, for some reason chose WSAD as controls over arrow keys, but the snake moved like a turtle with no reset after a game over. Overall both worked but Claude Opus implementation was definitely much better.
I proceeded to have Claude Opus build an app from scratch with a GUI and dropbox interface capturing current weather for any large city requested. It recommended a free API weather option and build the app designed around the API for temperature, windchill / humidex, humidity, conditions, atmospheric pressure. After registering for an API I was able to successfully get a fully working weather app. I haven't tested GPT4 but from experience it will have some issues with this requiring additional steps.
Claude Opus definitely does have its censor barrier, but not nearly as bad as Claude 2 was reported to have, and way better than Gemini Pro which is a preaching and lecturing disaster.
A great thing about Perplexity as a tool is that you can switch models in the middle of conversions (say you hit a censor barrier with Opus, just switch to Mistral Large), add files, images, create images, do web searches, all in a very convenient and efficient format. When building the weather app, it read through the API guide, and proceeded to fix its code using the guide and the app worked. The app literally took 20 min to build and that includes registering and subscribing for the API. After using Perplexity, outside of running my GPTs I custom built, I am using it as my go to tool.
