For sure, I wasn't trying to imply the Kings were favourites over the Flames to make the playoffs. Just saying that technically they do control their own destiny.

Not sure if anyone posted this but Doughty played 30min tonight, not going to be able to keep that up forever.

The Kings really didn't have much offensive push, last night...there were only a handful of times that they were able to hem the 'Hawks in their own zone, and very few dangerous chances were thrown at Darling...on the other hand, the Kings were a hot mess with turnovers and D-Zone coverage, and Quick had to bail them on breakaway after breakaway...
Depending on lucky bounces, opponent mistakes, and Jonathan Quick, may not be enough to get the Kings to the finish line...Brown and Doughty have been slumping badly, and Mike Richards looked awful...
They are fortunate, however, to have Edmonton x2, Colorado, and Saint Joe left on their schedule...the only playoff contenders left for LA to play are your Flames, and Vancouver.

Technically, they control their destiny, but it's more than even "win all 6 games and they're in."
They can still win all 6 games, and not make the playoffs.

If the bottom part is the case, then LA doesn't control their own destiny.
But, they do control their own destiny. If LA wins each of their remaining games, they're in.

How long can the suspense go? This is nuts and what is it with 4-1 OOT scores? Canucks had 2 trends to follow, continue a losing streak or play well against decent teams. A few years ago, the Blues had the Canucks number, now it's the other way around as the Canucks sweep the season series. The 4-1 score was the same score when they last played in St. Louis back in October. The Bhawks have woken up winning 4-1 over the Kings, that's 2 wins in a row. Despite the doom and gloom as they did fall into a wildcard spot, they are now 1 point back of the Blues and 4 back of the Predators for 2nd place in the western conf. Looks like the Oilers have the Avs number, and the Oilers won by the common score of 4-1. So much for a miracle season ending finish by the Avs. The Lightning sweep the season series over the Habs, Tampa wins 5-3 (the same score as the Flames win) and are now just a point behind the Habs for 1st in the conference. The big stat in this game was the Lightning's goalie, Ben Bishop, had 2 assists! Oh yeah, the Sabres beat the Coyotes 4-1.

Life in a 3-point world. If LA wins all their games, with the game vs. the Flames going to extra time, then the Flames are in if they win all their games except for the 1-point loss.

Not true.

How not? They have a game in hand on the Flames (+2 points) and one game vs. the Flames (+2 points). That puts them one ahead of us, no matter what.

You never said regulation wins.
Flames pick up a point in the game vs. LA, they're tied and the Flames get in.
I really can't see LA running the table though. SJ will not roll over for the Kings after being humiliated by them last year.
CGY, VAN and to a lesser extent COL are not gimmie points and EDM is playing decent hockey right now.

I think what's being suggested is the Kings can win in OT/SO and the Flames would be tied with points but own the tie-breaker.
However, the original intent is true, Kings control their destiny. Just means "control" is winning against Calgary in regulation.

Well Calgary has 3 points on them, so the game in hand doesn't work for them. But LA winning all their games means they would beat Calgary in game 81, so there's that.

Technically, the Kings could miss the playoffs even if going 6-0-0.
However, for this to happen, every single game involving the Kings, Jets, and Flames must have a specific result.
LA must win all 6 games, but has to go to overtime vs Calgary.
Calgary would have to win ALL 4 of their other games, however must win in OT vs Winnipeg.
Winnipeg must win ALL 5 of their other games.
Winnipeg would have 101 points, Calgary and LA would both have 100 points, and Calgary would win the second tiebreaker. The first tiebreaker would be up for grabs, between LA and Calgary, even after all those other results happened exactly. Assuming that Calgary and LA win ALL of their games before the shoutout, the ROW tiebreaker would be even, and Calgary would win the second tiebreaker. So, for this scenario to happen, LA must have the same number or more shootout wins than Calgary in their remaining games.
Assuming each game is a coinflip, the odds are incredibly small for the scenario to happen, 1/(2^15), and that still doesn't include the games that must be won in OT, AND the shootout wins factor.
Of course, if everything else in that list happened, the Flames and Jets would go into the last game knowing that for both to make it in, the Flames should win in OT, and they could "help" that happen.

+1 for many reasons, not just last night's result!

If St Louis wants to hit a rough patch, I'll gladly play them tomorrow.
But I'm expecting them to dominate Calgary again. If we do win, I can't wait for Saturday's game!

I really think the extra day off is going to do winders for these guys. I would expect St Louis to probably outplay the Flames, but a much closer game.
