This is one of those good deals were a guy not fitting in our system with some yet untapped potential gets another chance and we get to shuffle the deck again with another draft pick.
Sometimes the fit just isn't right. You hear it all the time, certain players just need a change of scenery to make it happen.
I'm still wishing the best for Baertschi, but am also happy he was traded as he was quickly becoming a problem situation with his waiver eligibility starting before he'd cemented a spot on the roster.
I do expect Baertschi to forge an NHL career, and I'm betting it starts with the Canucks. However, Canucks are going to hit the detonation button on that team in a couple of seasons and it'll be interesting to see if he survives that rebuild... he didn't quite survive ours.
|
Well since this thread doesn't seem to be leaving any time soon...
Even before the trade happened, I thought Baertschi would be an NHL player but just not with the Flames. As you say, he wasn't a fit here which is unfortunate. He has great talent, but obviously needs a lot of work to make it. Sometimes changes of scenery do it for a guy. Who knows, he played his Jr hockey on the West Coast, maybe playing in Van will help him.
I don't necessarily wanna see him tear it up now that he plays for our rival, but I don't wish ill on him.

I'm tired of the conversation too guys ... thought long and hard about it but saw the article and felt it was a true update.
Didn't want to be the guy that just sat on it.
Honestly didn't know it was locked.
Sorry guys!

It's a good exercise in learning to ignore something using the best ignore process, the one in the brain.

I don't get it. Can you sell me something that explains that same thing? That's usually how I get stuff.

Regardless, hoping Sven has a successful career, just not any playoff success while with Vancouver.

You must be new, and not a Flames fan. Baertschi had become quite the polarizing prospect over the last couple of seasons. Revisionist history? Feel free to look up as many Baertschi threads as you wish.
Nobody that has frequented these boards in the last couple of years can make the claim that you just did.

Gave my Baertschi Heat jersey to my brother in law last night. He used to live in Abbey, and is a dirty no gooder fan, so he was happy.

That's great. Here's hoping he has a long and fantastic AHL career.

Why is Sven still toiling in the AHL with the comets if henis doing so great? Should he be up on the big roster? Not like the Canucks are overly deep up front

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

He probably holds out demanding a one way big dollar contract.

he is subject to waivers regardless next year (and he won't pass), so a 1 way versus 2 way contract makes no difference to the canucks. he will get a 1 way contract.
but apparently that's subject to bad behavior.

Why would they call him up? No need to right now.
