I have this one.. it find it kind of weak.. But I like heavy peat.
Ya, if your into heavy peat, this is not for you. I definitely don't mind a good peaty scotch but strathisla is my go to for the price point and the smooth taste.
Alberta Premium is actually quite good for the price point.
I am also surprised that Crown put out a special whiskey that won 2016 world whiskey of the year.
Great whiskeys to have from time to time if you're on a budget, but neither I assume are any of our favourites (nor on our "do not bother list" due to crappy taste.
Pretty impressive for Crown Royal, and the hype around it means it is virtually sold out here in Toronto.
Its funny, I normally like a good scotch as a sipping drink. but I picked up a bottle of Crown Royal apple on a whim (Damn advertising) and I really like it simple, neat no ice.

A guy at work had two bottles of Crown Royal Northern Harvest in his coat pockets.
I wonder how that stuff actually tastes to have won World Whisky of the year, especially as a blend. I have a terrible case of Asian flush syndrome (lack of digestive enzymes for alcohol) and I find almost anything but well aged single malts will turn my skin beet red, my entire body itchy, and give me a suicidal migraine (true story). I'm guessing the cask aging is slowly taking out impurities that make the condition worse.

Has anyone here tried Northern Harvest?
I had a sample at craft cellars on 32 ave ne last weekend. It was my first time in there and I was pretty impressed. They also said they'll be increasing the selection of products you can sample significantly. Hopefully that will include some of the higher end stuff.
I actually didn't care for northern harvest so I picked up a few other bottles instead. My personal favourite for Canadian rye whisky is Dark Horse.
I have two bottles of the Harvest request that are up for grabs. I was planning to use them as gifts but changed our minds. I am not sure if I can return it to the store. Might as well share it to CPers if anyone is looking for one or two bottles. Thanks.
So I finally got my hands on a bottle of Northern Harvest.
It's defining characteristic is it's smoothness, but otherwise tastes just like regular crown royal. Maybe just less harsh.
Can't really believe it got ranked #1, but good for Canada I guess to get it's name out there in Whisky/Rye world
I got a 750ml bottle of Glenfiddich 12 Year Old for $35 over the weekend. Is it usually that cheap? I've never seen a single malt for that price!
At first taste, I'm not so much of a fan. It has very strong apple notes along with a little more young harshness than the other Speyside I have on hand (AnCnoc 12).
This is heavy peat goodness. If you don't like smokey/peaty scotch, this one is best avoided. Reminded me a lot of Lagavulin 12, but the price point is a little better, I believe it was around the $75 mark.
Has anyone else noticed Hibiki Harmony for sale in the city? First time I've seen Hibiki in Calgary. It's supposed to be able to stack up decently vs the Hibiki 12.
