Living in a developing nation, and paying taxes in Canada, I'm pretty okay with tax dollars being spent to help develop ''green" technologies.
One of the ones I know of here in Cambodia is a program to certify solar-panel constructors and installers.
About ten years ago a few unscrupulous companies built crap solar panels and sold them really cheaply, while promising the moon. They obviously failed and the companies (Cambodian companies) took the money and ran, leaving 'solar power' with a really bad taste in most people's mouths here.
Enter the Western-funded NGO. They begin a program of certifying solar-panel installation and maintenance companies in an effort to turn around people's perception of the technology and it's been working really well. This is particularly advantageous here where so many people (I think it's like 35% or something) live off the grid and get their power-when they have it-from diesel generators.
There are a lot of problems with NGO's and I really dislike Saudi Arabia and China being able to dip into this fund, quite frankly Saudi can go screw itself sideways, I hope that whole country gets gonorrhea, but on the whole I'm very pro developed-nations contributing to developing-nations environmental efforts.

I'm curious about the Turner and Chretien appointments.
Did they appoint people to positions in the distant future, or were they openings that needed to be appointed?
Also Turner's appointments, I feel like they were put in place by Trudeau and Turner's hand was forced (but it was before my time so I could be wrong, and it doesn't excuse anything either way).
That's how Turner explained it but it was the turning point in the election. Of course Mulroney later gets caught accepting bribe money in a paper sack, so there's that.

That's exactly where my thought process stems from. However, it was before my time, and I never actually looked into it.

Was going to comment on how Taiwan can possibly be considered a developing nation, and then read that you're in Cambodia, so carry on.
To add to your comment, I agree that I don't really have qualms with developed countries funding for environmental upgrades in developing countries. One of the argument has always been the West benefited immensely in the past by emitting a lot of carbon in order to get their countries industrialized and developed to where it is, now it's their turn to get their fair share in. I think by having the developed countries pay into a fund to help these developing countries fund their environmental initiatives, it helps counter this argument.

Guy campaigns on the fact that he and others in his position can afford child care... gets taxpayers to pay for it.
Just like every other Prime Minister with young children before him. He didn't campaign on "If a job offers child care as a perk, it should be taken away." It's ridiculous and it's a non issue and if this is the type of attacks the opposition are going to mount for the next four years it probably means he's doing a good job.

Yeah but did the previous PM's specifically campaign that they didn't need gov't funded child care because they were already wealthy ??

I'm not surprised one bit...
Trudeau Junior is a Hypocrite...
Jesus Christ.
Triangles. Triangles everywhere.
He is not on government funded child care. He is the Prime Minister. He is on government funded payroll. Even if he was paying out of pocket, it is still the god damned taxpayer who is paying for it. The station and the job pays for the day-to-day amenities like my job pays for my cell phone. It has always done this. It will continue to do this. It is a non-issue.

Jesus Christ indeed...
Don't campaign against something then turn around and take it...
The article said that as a "1 percenter" he didn't need govt subsidies for health care.
It would be very easy to not take that allowance but he is...
The let's make mountains of tiny molehills crowd is hard at work. That is an incredible stretch
I am clearly not making a mountain out of anything. But some folks here are defending him like he's being wrongly accused of something.
Aides and workers for household management of the PM's residence? Absolutely. Tax payer funded child care, i.e.: nannies? I would say no, but I'm not going to die on that hill of dirt. Just interesting that some folks would defend him so fervently.
Especially because JT made the child care benefit an election issue saying he doesn't need it, but then turns around and directly uses tax payer money for child care.
