What's up with that? There are certain classes of product that can be readily discounted huge amounts (70% or more). Which just suggests that the original retail price was a crock to begin with, and the discounted price should basically be considered "the real retail price". In this category off the top of my head:
-USB flash drives
-Watches
-Cookware (wtf?)
-Luggage sets
I don't get it.

For some I thought maybe it's because they're not purchased very often so people don't have a sense of what true market value is so they're fooled by the big discounts?

I find that when a product first comes out, it is overpriced but sometimes you can find a great introductory price that won't be matched for months. Prices gradually drop and deals can be found on Black Friday if you follow the product. When December begins prices go up and a regularly priced product at say $1400 goes up to $1700. $1400 is now the sale price. Boxing Day brings more sales deals as companies try to get rid of last years stock but a person could do well by following the product price for a while before purchasing.
