np

This is a case that's going to be studied in law school for a while.

Especially once the sanctions come out. I'm curious to see if they call it a ethical violation.

Well if you've read his entire Twitter feed or know much about old Roddy this isn't new. As of right now its still up, as are most of his controversial tweets. The NFL also doesn't care slightly about social media, there have been many players who've tweeted about Plaxico and Mike Vick getting more jail than Zimmerman, and several who've tweeted support for Aaron Hernandez.

^ Athletes + Twitter = Worst idea ever. When you take guys who aren't that smart to begin with and then give them an unfiltered medium, endless stupidity follows.

I think that has now been legitimized. If I want someone dead, I just provoke them into attacking me, and I shoot them.

Within the rights of gun carrying Americans, and other civilized countries like Somalia

Given the charge and mistakes by the prosecutors, this was the correct verdict. Should have gone for manslaughter to begin with, with a competent prosecuting team - the results would be much different.

Framing the case as murder, then at the 11:59th hour allowing the reduced charge was terrible - no way the jurors even considered it. They were instructed in murder charges the whole way through, no way that didnt factor into the delibs.

It would be interesting if someone walked up to Zimmerman in the street, shot him dead, and claimed "stand your ground". Based on how poorly this law is written and applied, such vigilante justice could quite possibly succeed.

I would think that would only work if there is corroborating evidence he was putting your life at risk at the moment you shot him.

I agree its a very poorly worded law and the potential for abuse is prevalent, but there still has to be evidence of sorts to convict.

I think that's what so many are mis-understanding about this case...the evidence was pretty much overwhelming that the defense (and the prosecution for that matter) presented in favor of the SYG scenario.

It may very well be one of the most bungled prosecutions ever seen. The way they went about this case, there truly was no other outcome.

Of note, this wasn't actually a Stand Your Ground case in the end. Zimmerman wanted to claim it but his attorneys decided against it and went for the jury trial. A SYG trial would have been a judge only trial.

I haven't really been following this trial but this made me laugh:

Who is that? ^^

And how do they pick jurors? Randomly I'm assuming?

That's Paula Deen, or are you joking?

In any case, I agree that there is racism and profiling, etc.

However, in the Seth Adams case, which also occurred in Florida, the deputy was white and Seth was white.

And apparently Seth was retreating from the deputy when he was shot.

As noted before, Stand Your Ground law was not a part of this trial.

The lesson here seems to be if you're a 17 year-old, 6' 1" "child" with recent pictures of guns, drugs and drug use on your cellphone and you've racially profiled someone following you as a "creepy-assed cracker," it might be a better idea to call 9-11 and have him picked up for questioning instead of calling your girlfriend then laying in wait for the "creepy-assed cracker," one-punching him to the ground, wailing on him then being surprised when he drills you in a State where half the population is likely packing.

Martin made some bad choices. He got himself killed because of it.

All the "legal" stuff aside there is something fundamentally wrong where a civilian can carry a gun around, stock another civilian that he suspects of a crime, and end up killing him, and get off free. Whether the jury got it right or not under "the law" doesn't change that. The law is obviously a load of garbage. There was no justice here, in the real sense of the term.

So that means its okay for him to be murdered? What a crock. None of that you pointed out means the kid deserved to have his life taken by some vigilante civilian.

Thats actually a fundamental '"right" for law abiding folks in Florida....whether or not one agrees with it.

Not a single persoin in this thread has said that IIRC...only that its the reality of the situation and the evidence presented in a court of law backed it up.

Florida decided it WASNT murder.

What a joke.

He was killed because some maniac decided to confront him because he wrongly profiled him.

Martin didn't pull the scumbag out of his car. He got beat by a teen and his ego got the best of him.
