Helps soften the loss of having to trade next year's first rounder when you can sign college free agents like this.

Great job by the Flames scouting him and bringing him to camp last season. Can't help but be confident with the organization when they are able to identify and grab players like Foo.

Steinberg on Fan 960 says he is hearing high fives are going around the Flames front office.

Honest question for everyone here: If the option is to let Foo start the year in the NHL vs. re-signing Chiasson to take a roster spot for a year, which would you rather do?

If it's me, I give Foo a chance. Great college players have come directly into the league and had an impact before.

The development camp invites have turned into quite a few contracts over the years.

From 2016's invites:
Dennis Kravchenko (ECHL)
Josh Healey (AHL)
Spencer Foo (NHL)

2015:
Chris Dienes (ECHL)
Ryan Lomberg (AHL)

Josh Jooris probably the biggest success story in recent times.

Caggiula was playing in the NHL in the same season you are referring to. They are the same age (Foo is a couple weeks older IIRC).

I think Foo has some good potential. I think he would be AHL bound no? Unless he has a stellar camp?

Don't forget Smith.

Treliving has been killing it the last few weeks.

I don't really know anything about this kid.

Scouting report on Spencer Foo?

“He’s greasy,” Starman said. “He just does a lot of little things that are fun to watch. He’s got electric speed, hands, guts. He’s not afraid to try something difficult. He’s been good. He’s just fun to watch and he plays with an edge.”

“That consistency has been very important because it has allowed the younger players to see that through consistency breeds success,” Union coach Rick Bennett said. “Spencer is one of the hardest workers in practice each day. Hopefully, that resonates throughout the year and when he moves on. My hope is that my younger players emulate his work ethic and consistency.”- Joshua Sequin collegehockeynews.com

I think the Flames really need to add some speed so this is good to read.

Sounds similar to Lazar. Not sure if he would be a fit on the top line but with his apparent work ethic anything is possible

Very similar to Versteeg last year (Edmonton never guaranteed him a spot). Had they have, they would have signed him but in both cases they didn't so both players signed with the Flames.
He definitely has an easier path with the Flames given our sparse RW depth.

But this also came out at one point:

@CraigCustance
My sense is he might need more AHL time which he's willing to do.

Matheson should know by now that it's better to remain quiet and be thought a Foo than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

I doubt Versteeg is back either.

Anyone think that Foo gets a shot at the top line? Perhaps alongside Bennett? Maybe with Backlund and Frolik? Which lineup do you like better?

1) Gaudreau-Monahan-Foo
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Bennett-Brouwer
Versteeg-Jankowski-Lazar

2) Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Lazar-Bennett-Foo
Versteeg-Jankowski-Brouwer

3) Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Frolik-Backlund-Foo
Ferland-Bennett-Lazar
Versteeg-Jankowski-Brouwer
Fixed that for ya

But yeah, pumped he's here! Wonder if him getting #15 means that management has high faith in him maybe earning such a low number quickly.

So, does this mean he is no longer an Oilers prospect?

Talk about jumping the gun.
