Today is the anniversary of Mickey's death. This is a loss still felt very deeply by the Windsor Spitfires organization and fans, and of course Flames fans too.
Tonight is Mickey Renaud night at the Spitfires game.
On the Spitfires website, there is a nice blog by Ryan Ellis about what a huge influence Mickey was on him.

Thanks for the reminder. The September (2007) after the Flames drafted Mickey, I happened to be on the same flight from NYC to TO with Ryan Baldwin, a Spitfire teammate with Mickey. Ryan spoke highly of Mickey. So sad.
Horrible tragedy. What were his chances of making the NHL? And in what role?
I am not a scout by any means but I really watched him closely at the prospects camp and liked what I saw. Character depth kind of guy I suppose. Who knows what might have been?
Great pre-game ceremony for Mickey Renaud. Boughner sent a video message. There was a tribute video and then Ryan Ellis presented his parents with a jersey sent by the Calgary Flames (Woot!) that Mickey had worn in training camp in 2007. It was sad, his Mom was crying, but I hope they were happy with the ceremony. They had their whole family in a box for the game and his Mom and Dad were pretty cute on the Kiss Cam.
