That must have changed because an article from the start of the season on the AHL website said they were the youngest and another articel from end of November also had them as the youngest.

Yep, this is the article from November, and it states we are the youngest:

Consider this: 15 players on the Heat roster are 22 years old or younger. Abbotsford at an average of 23.0 years old on opening night is the youngest team in the entire AHL. Three of the top four Heat scorers -- Greg Nemisz, Gaelan Patterson and Carter Bancks -- were last year playing junior hockey. Five of the Heat’s top eight scorers are first-year players.

Ahh.. I just found the Charlotte Checkers - 22.1y average age.

With an average age of 22.1 years, the Checkers are the youngest team in the AHL. Don’t let that fool you though – it is a result of the player development philosophy by Hurricanes management. More prospects, less free agents.

Seems to me the farm team has been on the youngest end for the last 3 or 4 years. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing.

I'd much rather have the youngest team in the AHL with a few veterans for leadership than to be Manitoba or Hershey where their team is made up of 27+ year old guys whose focus isn't development for their young prospects.

I'd rather have a younger team also, but it's good to have a few veterans around for the younger players to learn from-as along as the vets are positive for the development of the younger guys.

Also, I think as long as the Flames have veteran like Playfair coaching their minor league team, a young team is preferable.

I hope Jim is around for a awhile yet.
