No, we play in an inverted dome that we called a saddle. The Saddledome in any other city with any other name doesn't look or have anything country or western about it.

I missed the start of the game last night (I thought it was a 7:30 start) and I'd like to hear about how George Canyon did last night. Is there a video available on the internet?

I attended the game and felt that George Canyon did a great job, a few players banged sticks on the board after the anthem. The opening face off with the boy with cancer was pretty moving.

I was there - disclosure that I'm not a fan of country music but I thought it was fine.

The addition of an organ (if only electric), made it not too country at all.

Did he sing it straight or add that country twang?

I hate pop-country.

George did a fine job.

He does that bass thing - 'I've got friends in low places' - that all male pop-country singers do. No detectible twang.

He'll be fine.

I LOVE PRINGLES

Seriously, beer and pringles would be great game snacks.

Vancouver and Edmonton don't. Toronto rarely does.

Maybe it was because the dome was less than half full when the anthem was being played, but I thought George's rendition of Oh Canada lacked the enthusiasm and excitement that I think is needed in an anthem singer.

Did he sing the anthem without missing a word or falling down? Yes
Does he resemble Calgary's culture (assuming they want to portray that culture as 'cowboy')? Yes

Other than those two check marks, I don't see what else was good about that performance. Couldn't imagine a playoff game opening with that low toned dreary voice.

There will be another new anthem singer as Canyon is on tour next year. Contract is only for this season.

Bang on. Performance was fine, but I don't see anyone getting fired up after the anthem is over. The great thing about Heather was that you could feel the enthusiasm and excitement at the end without it being over the top. George never even made it halfway up.

George completely allayed my fears last night. He did the anthems straight and simple. Exactly as they should be.

I was there and I'm sorry, I thought it was very poor.

I'm not a fan of male anthem singers to start, but the ones that I can stand all have strong voices and booming presence that gets the crowd going.

It was almost like he was trying to sing quietly and that they needed to turn the volume up on his mic.

It honestly felt like the start of a luke warm hitmen game.

yep

I thought he would have a strong finale, but it was just...very slow and not exciting

I think most of his music is like that. Even in "upbeat" songs he doesn't really induce a lot of excitement via his voice or vocals.

I'm not sure if the audio quality sucked on the SN broadcast but the anthem sounded terrible today.
