Not really a fan of a country singer but I'll reserve judgement till I actually hear him sing.

It's not like he's singing his own songs. It's the national anthem. He will be just fine.

I was thinking the same thing. Did someone actually think this is what people want or was he really the best choice? Seems like someone just went with the "obvious" but in this case I think the obvious is wrong.

I have to be honest, I am not sure I see Georgie Boy as the obvious choice. He is a fella that has an active career (& I an't even a country fan)

I consider a bad singer to be a step above a a country singer. It goes:
- Great Singers (i.e. Crazy billion octave range singers like your Susan Boyels, pre-slut Mariah Carey...etc)
-----------
- Good Singers (Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Will Ferrell)
------------
- Passable Singers (Your top 40 pop stars live here)
-----------
- Bad singers (Think your American idol rejects or me)
-----------
- White Noise (or Whales)
-----------
- Country Singers and getting stabbed in the ears with a knife.

I can handle someone like Willie Nelson just fine but these country singers who all sound almost the same, are awful. I don't know what someone was thinking to hire this guy and if he's good why is he taking this job?

I assume he means pharrell williams. And Having Christina Aguliara as a good singer is insane. I may not like her music, but her range and power makes her far more better than a "Good Singer"

Christina Aguliara.
BTW, agreed she has a set of pipes on her (I also dislike her music).

On topic, it's kind of cool that it's actually someone I've heard of.

He's sung the anthem a few times over the last 3-4 years - I seem to recall that he sung it quite well - little fanfare, just a strong voice. I'm surprised that they picked a bigger name, I expected a local no-name.

Great! I always enjoy a faked-up twang version of 'Oh Cayn-a-duh'.

If you're going to do country, at least do someone the Corb Lund vein (I know he's not a Calgarian) where there is some crossover, and something the youths might appreciate.
|
Corb Lund is a niche artist. George Canyon is a lot more mainstream whether you like the music he makes or not.
