Yes and I believe he would be an RFA after next year (if he signed a one year deal)

That's ridiculous. Not one piece of his body of work suggests he's a tweener. How many tweeners are that successful in the amount of minutes and the toughest minutes that Brodie plays??? Answer: None

Is it because he plays on a terrible team that you came to that conclusion????

Brodin gets a little over 4 for 6 years and isn't in the same tier as Brodie. If we're buying UFA years it'll cost more than 5 for sure. 6 would be a big bet though. I'm guessing 5.5 for 6 years

5 years 30m gets it done IMO. Shelters the flames from anpotential boat anchor if he really falls off. Brodie gets paid. When he's 28, we give him the 8 year deal

The flames should have offered him the same deal that Gardiner got this summer before they even started the season. Too late now, if he keeps playing the way he is your looking at 6mil +. The longer the term the better.

Neither Gardiner or Brodie deserve the contract Gardiner got this summer. Brodie had out earned that deal with his previous two seasons, and the Leafs are just hoping Gardiner makes it seem not horrible.

Cmon man we both know that's not even close to the truth. The Leafs obviously took a page from the Oilers playbook - you get what you pay for. Due to equations, and the law of conservation of energy and mass, if you pay more you will get more.

I like it - how'd you get Brodie to agree to leave his agent out of negotiations though?

For cap hits. Anything above 5 million this year puts a player neat top 30 in league for . Brodie is not worth more than 5.5 million when you compare him to other high paid D. I would say on high end he is worth 5 a year on a longterm dea .

People should realize that player worth, at least for guys entering UFA years is not determined by what their counterparts earn. It's determined by what the team values the player's contribution at versus what the costs and benefits of the alternatives are.

You think that we are going to buy UFA years for sub-Wideman money?

Edmonton and other teams with no defense (but especially Edmonton) would gladly pay Brodie $6.5-7 million a year. So I doubt he comes cheaper than $6 million per. If he has a good agent he could really cash in.
