Default First 7 game series of the year

The way I figure it, if we go by Darryl's program and break the season down to 7 game series the Flames need to attempt to at least win each series which would give the Flames roughly 46 wins or 92 points. which if you look at last year would give the Flames a wild card spot by one point.

Series 1

Canucks L 4-2
@Oilers W 5-2
@Blues L 4-1
@Predators W 3-2 SO win
@Blackhawks 2-1 OT win
@Blue Jackets L 3-2
@Jets W 4-1

Series won 4-3 gf 19 ga 17 8 points

Now with such a brutal starting schedule, I don't know if I feel good about 4 wins. But any team should aspire to at least a combination of 8 points every 7 games.

Please note that there aren't a pure 7 game blocks in the season, there's actually 11 7 game blocks and a 5 game block.

Series 2

Lightning 2-1 L (OT)
Hurricanes 5-0 W
Capitals 3-1 L
Canadians L 2-1 so
Predators w 4-3
@Canadians W 6-2
@Capitals W 4-3 ot

Flames series tied 4-3 points out of a possible 14 10

GF 22 ga 14

After 2 series, Calgary got better at picking up points. They were +3 on goals from the 1st series and -7 in goals against.

Calgary is currently 2-0 in series with a total of 18 points out of a possible 28 for a ontrack of 104 points over the season. Their playoff chances are calculated at 78.6% which is up 3.2% from yesterday

@ Lightning 2-5 L PP 1 for 4 pk 1 for 1
@ Panthers 6-4 W pp 1 for 3 pk 3 for 3

Coyotes 5-3 win pp 0 for 3 pk 1 for 1

Ducks 4-3 win so pp 0-5 pk 1 for 3

flames win this series 4-2
Scoring gf 22 ga 21 pp 22 % pk 76.5%

3 series played Flames are 3-0
Calgary has currently picked up 26 out of a possible 40 points and are on track for a possible 107 points. Their possibility of making the playoffs is now 85.7%

Series 4

Chicago l 3-4 pp 2-6 pk 1-2
Devils w 5-4 ot so pp 1-6 pk 1-2
@ Ducks L 2-3 pp 0-4 pk 0-0
@ Sharks W 2-0 pp 1-2 pk 2-2
@ Coyotes W 3-0 pp 1-3 pk 1-1
Coyotes w 5-2 pp 1-3 pk 1-1

Calgary wins this series 4-2 gf 20 ga 13 pp 21.4% pk .75%

Calgary has won all of the 7 game series 4-0

Calgary is still on track for 107 points
Their chance of making the playoffs is now 89%

Series 5

I think we'll go 2-4-1.

I see only two winnable games in the first block.

I think 2-5 sadly. Wins against Edmonton and Nashville.

Yeah, that's the problem with the "let's break it down" strategy. You start doing it and you find that you're Oh for... that can't do anything other than suck the life out of you as a player.

I think everyone likely has tonight's game in the "win" column, but I would be curious which team is their #2.

For me, it's Winnipeg.

It really depends on what the coaches do with it. Obviously, if it no longer becomes about getting into the playoff conversation, then I think that a good coaching staff will find other, more productive ways to frame it. At minimum, breaking the season down into these chunks is likely to make a long 82-game season feel more manageable—especially to young players who are at the start of their careers.

I liked the 3 game series strategy (I think poster pointed out that it was B. Sutter?). The goal is to win 2/3 games in every series. Makes it more manageable, tangible and focused on the near future.

All I could think of was this...

Hitchhiker: No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel.
Ted: That - good point.
Hitchhiker: 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.
Ted: Why?
Hitchhiker: 'Cause you're f*#@in' fired!

The 7 game thing would be fun to follow when we have a chance, I see us winning maybe 1 of them.

For anyone interested, last year (potentially mistake-free):

3-2-2
3-4
1-5-1
2-3-2
3-2-2
1-5-1
1-5-1
5-2
4-3
3-4
4-3
(3-2 in the last 5, won't count it)

For 5 'wins' and 6 losses. 3 of the wins we still lost more games than won (3-2-2) and 3 of the losses were brutal (1-5-1).

Ya this year I'm just hoping to see the young guys take steps, and hopefully they can keep those one goal games often again this year. Best thing would be to be in all the games all season yet still finish bottom 3 in the league.

Wasn't this bob's strategy last year? Didn't realize it was an older philosophy

I have always liked the notion of breaking the season down into a bunch of 7 game series. Should this be a strict grouping? Or, if the Flames go 4-1 in the first 5 games, should that be considered "won" and start a new 7 block?
