It's a long season.
I would say that at least Buffalo, Carolina, Edmonton, and Florida are worse then us at this point but still a long way to go.
An injury to Gio or Brodie and we probably fall down that list very, very quickly.

Not really 2015 draft but interesting nonetheless
Craig Button says Auston Matthews is the favourite to go first overall in the 2016 draft and he is a generational player like Eichel and McDavid according to Button

If you haven't heard about Auston Matthews, you will.
The 17-year-old centre from Scottsdale, Arizona, misses the 2015 NHL Draft by two days. He was born Sept. 17, 1997 – 48 hours after the eligibility deadline. He is the clear favourite to go No. 1 in the 2016 Draft.
Were he available for next June's draft in Sunrise, Florida, he would – in my view - be considered in the same category as Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel.
Matthews rocketed to stardom in 2013-14 with 24 goals in 44 games split between the USA U-17 (12-21-33 in 24 games) and U-18 (12-5-17 in 20 games) national teams.
Watching Matthews, I see a player capable of impacting the game in multiple ways. The 6-foot-1, 194-pounder is an excellent skater who can beat opponents with speed or quickness and is capable of executing plays at high speed. His passing skills are precise and he has the ability to score off the rush, off the cycle, from a distance, from in close. He has the intelligence of high-end players and exudes an uncommon confidence. He swats away obstacles as though they are merely irritating flies.

Interesting, we've got an Arizona boy for once. He shoots left and is a RW, correct?

It says in the TSN article he is a centre, but he's been listed as both on other websites.

IF we miss out on the top 3, I would not mind Kylington. The need for top defenceman prospects is high.
I really hope we land Hanifin though. Monahan, Bennett, and Hanafin would be very nice building blocks.

And we're finally entering the era of "parents who spelled their kid's normal first name in a dumb way to be unique" players entering the NHL.

Intro Excerpt:
Quote:
"With the 2014 NHL City of Brotherly Love Draft long since in the books, let’s take an early season glimpse at some of the talented young guns to keep an eye out for for the 2015 NHL Draft to be held on June 26–27, 2015 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. This is a talent-laden draft with some potentially franchise-altering players available.
There will undoubtedly be plenty of jockeying for position amongst the eligible prospects with almost a full season of hockey yet to be played."

Extremely early mock draft...
Intro exerpt:
Quote:
Whether it be the Coyotes going off the board to take a Blake Wheeler, the Kings selecting Thomas Hickey seemingly out of nowhere or Anthony Duclair slip sliding to the third round, a mock draft can go off the rails quicker than Connor McDavid can execute a wraparound.

Every fan mock draft I read on HF still consistently gets us Hanifin.

Flames really need a top level D-prospect. Anywhere outside the top 2 and I expect they'll take the best defenseman on the table.

2 if they stay the course
Can't really say what number they'd be if they make trades or coaching or management changes.

I think D-men are much harder to predict, so it's harder to use high picks on 'em. Out of the top 15 or so persent D-men only a couple came with a really high pick (Doughty, Peitrangelo Hedman). Karlssen, Suter, McDonagh and Seabrook were mid first rounders. Chara, Weber, Keith, Subban, Vlasic, Campbell, Muzzin - all were 2nd or later. And we know about Gio and Brodie.

Don't both Burke and Treliving have a history for picking defenseman in the first round? I would imagine if the BPA is a defenseman, we're going to grab them.

With Burke. Not particularly, no.
He drafted Pronger and Gardiner. But then there's the Sedins, Umberger, Kesler, Ryan and Kadri.
