But games must be watched and theres plenty to do outside of Calgary, like in Banff, which is NOT part of Calgary.

I had a job opportunity in Regina and I went with my GF for a weekend trip to check it out last summer. She broke down crying at what a hole it was. The tier you are trying to place Calgary in, I'm just gonna say you're really off the mark

Another option would be to stay at the hostel that is right across from the saddledome. You can get a private room but have to share a bathroom for $42 night.

The roads vary from flat plains to mountain passes, and the weather can go from sunny and warm to a snowstorm in an hour's travel. If you are not an experienced driver in snowy or icy conditions, it can be an adventure. I would suggest paying close attention to current weather and road reports and as someone else suggested, allow for more travel time than expected.
And as a US citizen you need to be aware of our gun and weapon laws ie. we don't like them.
Hope that helps, and I am sure you will enjoy the hospitality of our city and community.

I was planning on dropping my weapons off at the local sheriff while I was gone for storage.

My face is a bum!

If you can spring for it, spend at least one night not at the airport.
Pretty much anywhere I've been, there's been a direct correlation to how much fun the trip has been and how close I stayed to the action.

Honestly if your not from Calgary, and its a short trip I think you could keep yourself pretty entertained in town.
Walk around Stephan Ave, Find a Pub.
Stop by the Zoo, not a great zoo by world standard, but a really neat location compared to most zoo's
Day trip to the mountains, hike or shop in Banff or just stop at some rest areas and enjoy the view.
Canadian Sports Hall of Fame
Flames Game
see a play of some sort
go to whatever crappy trade show is at the BMO center, or Cowboys Casino. Just to check out the stampede grounds.
Eat at Sky360 in the tower.
If you've never been here before that could easily fill up 5 or 6 days, and would really be all that different than visiting most major cities.
Its not New York, Orlando, Vegas or LA. But I don't think you will find that anywhere in Canada

Get real.
He's talking about our gun laws vs. American gun laws. Not how each individual feels about guns.
