Can people post some pictures?
I don't really get what the Stampede is, but it definitely seems like a throwback, old-fashioned festival which sounds neat.
Is it actually Wild West themed or is it just a bunch of drunk idiots wearing cowboy hats?

A little of column A and a little of column B.
It's pretty good overall, and is kind of like a state fair/carnival/rodeo all wrapped into one. Like you guys have the CNE, and it's sort of like that I think but more going on and western themed.
The big difference isn't actually on the Stampede grounds and at the Stampede itself. It's that the entire city and business community embrace it. So store fronts are painted, businesses have breakfasts/lunches/BBQs and things like that. That's the significance I think. It's like a complete buy-in and while it gets out of hand, it's pretty impressive.

So it's a whole citywide thing? Sounds cool.

People drop formal business attire for jeans, cowboy boots, belt buckles and Western shirts. People from Toronto always think Calgarians are ####ing with them when we say this if they are coming to town that week, but it is 100% true.
Some bars set up huge tents in their parking lots for bigger parties. Lots of bands come through town to play at the bars, saddledome, free stages on the grounds.
Lots to do for kids and adults. A number of years ago I'd be out drinking most nights. Now with a kid we go to the free breakfasts in the community, rides and such.

Fireworks were so bunk. Cost cutting measure?
I'm reminded why I hate the stampede. What a waste of time and money.

FWIW, the fireworks were even shorter last year even though they're using the same song (plus the new Oh Canada part) for the Grandstand show finale

To me it seems like the fireworks at the Grandstand show this year is the shortest it's been in a long time, maybe 10 years.

Which is funny because I spent 5 hours down at the grounds this evening. Drank a few beers ate a bunch of food. Played some games. Won some money back at carney gambling. Watched the fireworks and just got home after a nightcap at side street in kensington.
For abou $40 (plus my super pass) I had a very enjoyable 6.5 hours out and about.
Great way to spend a beautiful Saturday evening.

If anyone is interested..there is a stampede breakfast in Priddis this morning.
Its a $5 charge and all proceeds go to Woods Home.
this year is kind of cool however, as at 10am they are opening up a time capsule that was sealed in 1967.

My wife says I am too short for this ride and even if I was taller, it costs too many tickets

Me and a couple buddies are looking at going to the rodeo on Tuesday afternoon. I was wondering if I should buy tickets online first? Or will the 3 of us be able to get rush seating?
How does the rush seating work? Is it standing room only or actual seats?

Well if he did, he'd know that the place to find a wobbly h is Cowboys, not Craigslist.

You can probably get rush seats, but if you buy online you get free admission to the grounds and a guaranteed seat.

Admission is only $1.50 until 1:50 on Tuesday. If we went for rush seating would it be an actual seat or standing room only? There's 3 of usif that makes a difference
Is the rush seating the seats in the infield?
