Now I know I'm not crazy. I just noticed a second picture with the ufo. It's in the sky below and to the right of the raven...
They are so out there.

And to think they came a 1000 light years and forgot to turn off the red beacon lights

Bump.
Saw this thing again today. Was hovering over west Calgary (looking over Signal Hill). Spotted it in broad daylight, just a hovering light, not moving, for about 5 minutes. Took some binoculars, saw the red underbelly again, but was more faint this time, and harder to catch. Also couldn't make out the shape as distinctly this time, but the red was there. This object was definitely further away this time, but still in the same general area as the last. Was pretty high up too.
After hovering, it appears to move in a SW direction, and then quickly faded into nothing before going past the cloud line (see picture below).
Again, no blinking plane lights, no movement, no contrail. Definitely too high to be a drone (and too far away to spot one), and the only flight in the area was WS129 heading to Vancouver, but when I checked Live Flight Tracker it was over the BC border. And like last time, usually from this distance I can see the lights on the planes blinking if not.
Managed to capture a picture this time, but again, with a regular smartphone so it doesn't really do it justice (needed the binoculars again to see the illuminating red underbelly). I don't have a high-powered camera:
I am inclined to believe this is manmade now that I think I saw it twice, anyone want to help figure this out? Not saying it's a UFO, but I certainly can't identify what it is. Perhaps just a meteor?

Sometimes an airplane flying directly away from you can appear like it is hovering. Perhaps that's what you're seeing there.

Well... that makes it a UFO.
Interesting, I have no idea but want answers.
What time do you see it? My first thought is its Venus, it's out at sun down and sun up and really bright.

I was doing yoga on a rooftop once, and saw something exactly like what's being described. It was ####ing hot, and I was half meditating and thought I was probably imagining it.
Good to know I, too, have witnessed aliens.

MOD EDIT: No insults, please.
TheFlamesVan - It was at 3:48 PM. Still plenty of sunlight.
Here is another photo, this time before it disappeared creating a very quick trail in the brief time it moved before it vanished into thin air:
Time between hovering still and moving SW with a slight trail before disappearing completely was about 5 seconds. This photo was right in that five second window.

A few years ago I was walking my dogs at night on a quiet road in my subdivision (about 45 minutes outside Halifax). The road is mostly trees and very dark. I spotted something in the sky above the trees. It was about the size of the nail on my baby finger if held at arm's length. It was stationary and made no noise. It was kind of blurry looking and oval shaped. I watched it for a few minutes and if I squinted I could see a rectangle in the middle of the oval and it was flashing.
After watching for a few minutes the dogs wanted to start walking again and as we did the trees blocked my view of it for less than a minute. Once back in a clearing it was gone.

At 3:45 in Calgary Venus would have been the same height as the sun, over the S/SW Sky, to the right of the sun.

Yes, Venus should be visible right around dusk in the SW. Brightest object in our sky after the Sun.
When I lived near West Hills, Elbow Valley was a busy flight path. Many planes coming and going.

That second picture you posted looks like a contrail, from an aircraft moving away from you towards the SW.

Definitely not Venus. Venus doesn't move and disappear with a brief contrail.
Can't say it wasn't an aircraft, but also can't say it was - I am familiar with aircraft over that hill for years now and usually you can see the flashing lights.

Keep in mind that contrail and aircraft could be very far off, way past the ability to see strobes or anti-collision lights.

Lighten up. I was making a light hearted jab/joke.
The joke amongst the UFO community is that no one has ever gotten a clear sharp picture of a UFO. They are all fuzzy and grainy.

With binoculars on, the underside of the object was radiating red at various intensities. What might cause that?
