The Browns will still try to trade for Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, league sources tell cleveland.com, and they now have an extra second-round pick in 2018 to pull it off.
They acquired Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler and the 2018 second-round pick in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round pick (No. 142, compensatory). They also got the Texans sixth-round pick (No. 188).
Essentially, they moved up from the fourth-round to the second for $16 million -- the price of Osweiler's guaranteed contract.
They might either trade or release Osweiler, because the trade was all about getting the pick and not about the quarterback.
The Browns have the ammunition to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo and will try to put together a strong package that the Patriots will accept.
The Browns have two first-round picks and two second-rounders this year, and now three second-round picks in 2018.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Former Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is signing with the Packers, per source.

Quite a 5 mins for Packer fans on Twitter.
Jared Cook is done in QB:
"FireTed" "OMG we're screwed"

Bennett is a great fit in GB. That's a huge signing for the Packers, although their D still need a lot of work.

Bennett should be a great fit in that offense. Packers have needed a guy with that skill set for a long time.

TRADE! The Patriots have traded their #32 & 3rd #103 pick to the Saints for wide receiver Brandin Cooks & their 4th #118 pick per sources
sigh
EDIT: didn't the Saints turn down #18 from the Titans? Now all of a sudden, they are fine with #32 and trading up 15 spots in the 3rd/4th round. What the heck.

I never believed that rumor, no way a team turns down a mid 1st for Cook. Patriot's loading up for one last run with Brady.

They're going to love him, he's got wheels for days. And as long as Gronk is healthy, Cooks won't see too many double teams. I bet he won't pull any of his immature "throw me the damn ball" crap in NE

Wonder if New England become the first negative odds team in the Super Bowl era. They should be no worse than even money right now, probably won't go 16-0 just because they'll be a week or two they slip up, but no one in the AFC is remotely close to them. If anything the NFL should intervene and put them in the NFC which is much more competitive. Swap them for the Redskins since they're a trainwreck. But barring a career ender to Brady, they can start printing the AFC Champions merchandise.

I hear you, but give me even money and I will take the field over the Patriots all day long. There's a lot that can go wrong.

it's pretty frustrating as a non-Pats fan. They lose Bennett and Sheard, but bring in Cooks, Allen, Ealy and Gilmore and seemingly retain Butler. Not bad when you replace a solid #2 receiving TE with a 23 year old WR with 2300 yards and 17 TDs in the last two seasons as well as with a veteran depth TE. And of course, Gilmore will probably be a beast for them and Ealy is at least solid. Coming off a SB and making these kind of moves is sick, plus I wouldn't be surprised if they recouped a good 1st for Jimmy.

Interesting to see what the Browns end up doing with all these picks. Is Kevin Costner still the GM?
And so far Texans have cleared cap space and lost players. Waiting for them to do something with all this money.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
The #Patriots are signing former #Ravens DL Lawrence Guy to a 4-year contract worth up to $20M, source said.

AP is done so that actually might be a net negative move. Better off re-signing Blount. Signing AP would however make the Patriots the most hated team ever.

As I said, Brady could suffer a catastrophic injury. Maybe Belichick croaks. Other than those two things, there's virtually no chance the Patriots aren't at least in the Super Bowl next year.

Not retired done, he's finished as a good RB. Father time is undefeated. Maybe if AP gave a team more than just carries he might be worth a pick up. But he doesn't block, can't catch passes and cannot be used in shotgun formations, which New England runs a lot. 32 is borderline ancient for a RB, especially with the miles and injuries AP has. I'm sure the Pats would take him for the league minimum, but his pride is too strong for that.
