Kevin Martin
@KMartinCourts
Jury recommends consecutive periods of parole ineligibility. Not binding on judge. #Garland

So I believe that means 75 years till eligible for parole.

Either way, he will never be paroled and will spend the rest of his life in prison.

According to friends of the Garlands, he has been in gen pop up until now, with no consequences meted out, as of yet, by other inmates.

This article is heartbreaking. It really makes you appreciate the hard work the police do everyday.
To think that a lot of the key evidence could have been inadmissible because someone looked inside the capture kit bag without a warrant. Hopefully that's a lesson learned on future homicide investigations.

Great job by the CPS and Crown though.

I'd heard this as well from a guard at Remand. Very surprising, as I've heard inmates generally don't take too kindly to people who harm kids. Perhaps a guilty verdict will speed things up! What a POS.

While I hope this is true, I also would think that inmates arent too interested in seeing their own sentences increased as a result of an assault in lockup.

The Crown will be speaking to media in about 15 minutes.

I would have to imagine he will be transferred to a maximum security prison now that he has been found guilty.

A few inmates there might have an issue with him...

Yeah, it came in around 2012. I recall with the Legebokoff case, people were really disappointed because although the new sentencing rules were in place, he committed hi crimes just before they were put in place, so they didn't apply them.

The judge in that case said in his decision that he should never be let out. These statement from the trial judge do come into play when convicts try to get parole though.

I wonder how 2 jurors could have no opinion. I find that strange

Maybe from their perspective, given Garland's age, 25yrs w/ no parole or 75 won't really make a difference.

Yeah I would have to think that would be my stance.

From a purely objective standpoint and taking all emotion out of it, I can understand the "no opinion". Their job as a juror was to determine guilty or not guilty. The sentencing is left up to the judge and I would be fine leaving the consequences of that decision up to someone much more qualified than myself in that regard.

He was in remand/jail, which is for individuals awaiting trial or in for short sentences. I can understand some guy awaiting trial or who are in for only a couple months wanting to stay the hell away from Garland and not have a couple years added on for some stupid assault charge.

Prison however...that's where the real fun will be for Garland. Other prisoners serving life sentences who are desperate and have nothing to lose.

Yeah, there is a big difference between Remand and Federal pen.
